How is saying that our first XI is top 3/4 but that our squad as a whole will drag us down a) unfair and b) suggesting that I'm not a Brighton fan? I'd say it's a pretty fair summary that most people would agree with. Go on, do a poll, and ask if our first choice team is QUALITY (everyone will say yes), but that our reserves are largely not good enough (vast majority will say yes).

It doesn't mean you're not a Brighton fan, it's a fair point.

It's alright for some to criticise, soon as (specific) others do so or say something they don't agree with, they're labelled as clueless, not a proper fan and any other crap reflecting they somehow think they're a better fan than you.

1. They're really just a fitness exercise. In the last 10 years or so, I've seen plenty of shit players have brilliant pre-seasons (Robbie Pethick anyone?) and vice versa. I've also seen us get bad results and go on to win leagues, and brilliant results followed by relegation. I think that, as an indicator of what's going to happen come the first game, they're a waste of time. I also think that if you bring a BIG signing in (ie Livermore) then you have to see what he can do in the proper games. Just because he doesn't stand out in the meaningless matches doesn't mean he's a bad player or a worse option than El Abd, Fraser, Mayo etc who have all had more than their fair share of chances.

Don't fully agree. The matches are only meaningless in terms of the result. In many other ways, they are a very useful tool for the manager to work with. If, for instance, they are merely a fitness exercise, why does the manager chop and change the team? By which I mean, everyone gets a run-out, but some get played in more than one position. Livermore, for instance...

Similarly, if Livermore was a 'BIG' signing, why did he start at Crewe or on Tuesday?

I'm not saying he didn't play because Adams doesn't rate him - what I mean is, surely his non-starting implies Micky feels he has better options?

Unless someone knows a) how many games I go to, and b) my support to criticism ratio at matches, I wouldn't give them an ounce of credibility when it comes to the old 'I'm a better fan than you' bollocks.

It seems everyone is saying that Man City will field a majority reserve side like i said the other day.Are you starting to change your tune now?
Now City have to field there strongest side in UEFA that leaves the door open for the kids.Think i have scored another one over you on this debate

When it comes to Livermore, THIS is the debate I feel we should be having. Not any of this rubbish about what he did in pre-season, because I think there are so many factors that contribute to a distorted view of a player in pre-season.

Firstly, I'd say that he IS a big signing by our standards (played 50 times for Hull in the last 2 years, 2 moves totalling £1m, and was a successful captain of Millwall). All the clubs he's been at are bigger/better than where we are now, so he's got to have something to justify that. However, if he was THAT good then surely he'd have started the games so far. I find it a bit strange really that he wasn't involved at Crewe, bearing in mind Adams has only just signed him. I think Micky doesn't want to throw ALL his new players in together, and I also think he will always find room for Virgo in his team. Those two things combined probably meant Livermore was the one to miss out. Better options? Well, I suppose Thomson is, and now Virgo's found himself in midfield he is, but I'd be VERY disappointed if Livermore was overlooked in favour of El Abd or Fraser.

Absolutely SPOT ON  and it's a real pity he is unlikely to play on Satuday because that would have been the ideal opportunity to see him in his right position with decent players around him, in a competitive match situation.

What? What relevance does that have to this thread or the post you quoted?!

We'll just have to wait and see, but I think Man City will put out their strongest side bar their best 2-3 players. If you really are excited "scoring one over" someone you've never met then consider that you have, but with the match over a month away I think you're being a little premature.

You were so adamant about what you posted the other day that you wasn't listening to reason from the other side. You might had a slight case but that disappeared with City's result last night. There might be one or two first teamers in the squad but more then likely they are ones coming back from an injury.Hughes said the other night he wants to do well in the UEFA competition.I don't think he gives a toss really about the coco cola cup unless they reach the later stages of the comp.
I posted this here so you wouldn't over look what i posted.I just get the feeling the Badger camp is not so condfident now.
