Virgin Media Broadband, anyone got it?

Is anyone on here a user of Virgin Media Broadband?

With the Brighton area just about to go 20megs I fancy changing from my rubbish BT ADSL 2 meg cant go any quicker line to that, its actually cheaper too as I can get rid of my BT phone line as well.

Any horror stories about lots of downtime and slow connection speeds etc I should know about or is it all funky and I'll be stealing MP3 tracks at the rate of 1 every 2 seconds?

I have it and have for the last year, unfortunately I have no horror stories to tell of. It works great, I have the 10mb package and its always running in the high 9's.

you can't get the optic-fibre super speed service but I believe that Virgin are adding a 'phone line' broadband service if they haven't already !!!

Got it here in Exeter, when it works it's great but unlike our BT broadband back home, it has an unfortunate habit of crashing, sometimes for days on end. But that might just be because the network here in Devon is a bit dodgy, it may well be fine in Brighton.

Virgin goes through cable so I don't think that's an issue for them. It's just their cable network that seems to be a bit shit round these parts.

Virgin is optic fibre, it doesn't go near horrid phone lines !!!

The infrastructure that Virgin use is separate to that of BT. Any changes BT make to their exchanges will only work for those on ADSL which is not the same as Virgins cable broadband service.

You're not missing much, you get as many if not more channels with Freeview.

Is it? Freeview gets you stuff like Sky 3 and SSN that you can't get on Virgin, you get the same amount of music channels (two!), both give you all the BBC and ITV channels, some of UKTV and random crap like Bravo, and that's about it.

Well you obviously pay a lot more than the basic package in that case, which doesn't compare favourably at all with Freeview which is, of course, free.

i have the 8mb package and is good, never have problems and i always get about 7 out of it.
Im in Burgess Hill though, wish they would speed up the exchange...
