Bizarre Transfer Speculation - Virgil van Dijk

I hope Gus has been looking at other players. We could lend up with a final day transfer that goes the same way as Dobbie.
Dobbie is a good example of a panic buy.

But I think it was a panic buy based on CMS going to Norwich which never happened so we ended up with the pair of them. That's just my opinion, don't have any inside info at all.

I don't think he's as good an example as we make out. When we brought him in we all thought he was a good chioce, with plenty of experience at this level. Sometimes players do well, sometimes not, and players like Dobbie are not helped by the lack of a consistent starting place. Just look at Murray - rubbish for Palace last season, with fans saying he's not interested and not that good, and now he's on fire.

Almost dead: Poyet fears deal is dead From The Argus)

I think a central defender is important enough to sell one of forwards for. This player may very well be ideal for us though. If he was really really good he would have gone to Ajax or Twente before now.

So, 3 offers, how much more can we really do? Really can't just keep upping the bid everytime they shake their heads.

Time to move on and spend the money elsewhere. Unless they have a change of heart on the last offer.

£2.5m for a defender who is unproven at this level is a bit scary for me. He might be highly rated, or have a good future, but we need a defender who will do a job NOW. £2.5m could buy us a lot of other players or provide the loan-fee for an out of favour Premier league defender.

if no one goes out in this remaining window, and we dont sign a CB, then its not been a bad window, we have strenghened up front and we have Caldy to fill in at CB and Bruno to come back in as well, so its not too bad, we also have Vincelot who can do a job there.

We made two signings this window which have improved us. Ullloa and Vicente.

This guy will be playing for us when we play in the Premiership. The guy is class.

In the long term it will be a saving to pay that extra fee now!

So to summarise...

We have made 2 undisclosed bids rumoured to be around £2M. Gronigen won't budge unless it is around £2.5M to £3M allegedlly.

Agent suggest Virgil would be up for a move.

Doesn't look like we have made a 3rd bid.

I would be interested in the Agent and Players response. If Virgil hands in a tranfer request (probably unlikely) things could and do change.

Dutch generaaly play hard ball and Gronigen fighting relegation. Probably they don't have a replacement lined up.

Disappointing if deal is dead, and hope Gus has a plan B. I believe we have an excellent chance of the playoffs with the squad we have available. Would be a shame to miss out because we are defendewrs short. Last year it was a striker.

I'm hoping for a last minute deal tomorrow.

Have we made a third offer? I thought it was 2 offers, and a question to them of what price they thought.

we have Caldy to fill in at CB and Bruno to come back in as well, so its not too bad, we also have Vincelot who can do a job there.
And hopefully Dunk will be back within a week and fully ready to concentrate on football again.

I agree we would be taking a chance on VVD, especially in defence. I find it curious that most of the video footage of him is around the opponents box and none really show him making a last ditch tackle in his own box. Groningen don't exactly have a great defensive record this season. I know its more sexy to show him scoring goals rather than stopping them but the latter is supposed to be his bread and butter. Makes me wonder if he is a 'David Luiz' style of defender ie more comfortable going forward rather than outright defending. However I'd like to think VVD's pace would have prevented that awful 3rd goal we conceded against Watford when Vydra left Greer and El Abd for dead. Plus his height would give us more resilience at defending set pieces etc. If Gus thinks he has what it takes then fine and I still hope it happens.

Love Google Translate!

"The agent of Van Dijk said on Monday that his client the very least would appreciate if Groningen him a transfer to England would deny. The Eredivisionist is however completely in her right given the contract of the 21-year-old basket monoplane until mid-2015 and runs the club the money does not necessarily need."

Bizarre Transfer Speculation - Virgil van Dijk

Why doesn't he put in a transfer request and the club will not want a unhappy player in squad

Well yes, we are getting there.

At least we are not Huddersfield, who don't even have a manager to make signings yet, with the window shutting tomorrow.
