I’d remove West Ham from that list.

I watched them at The Emirates, they played Arsenal off the park, somehow losing. Antonio, Bowen, Soucek, Ogbanna and Balbuena I think are exceptional.

Interesting that you’ve excluded Leeds and Villa. I can see arguments why.

Agree, neither West ham or stains should be on the list.

It's going to be another squeeky bum season unless something half decent happens in the next 24 hours.

The opposite to our Utd match. Almost every shot Villa take turns to goals. Deflections and keeper gifts a plenty.

Great fun to see Liverpool hopelessly try and score their way back into the game.

How they are spending so much on wages and transfer fees in the current situation, does make me wonder.

As dodgy as it may be, Chelsea, then Man City set the template, so anything goes.

We are teams like these, and being nice/sensible/honest/realistic is what it is. . . .

I did that in running my own business for ten years, went backwards and gave up.

Being a crook and a c**t pays. You just need the wrong/right personality to do it.

What they are paying in terms of salaries to the new signings is phenomenal .

I hadn’t realised the FFP was suspended during the pandemic, read it in someone’s post earlier. If that is the case what happens when FFP comes back? As I can’t see how some of these clubs will be able to cover the enormous wage bills and stay within the rules. Or am I being crazily naive?

Looks like the absence of crowds has sent football bonkers.

I have no idea how it will be calculated when it comes back.

It's not suspended, it's just rolled over into 2021 and clubs must account for the reasons behind their losses. Stuff that is pandemic related while be waived.

Expect a Manchester City style case to arise.

They’ll get away with it. Sustainability will start afresh.

My understanding is that strictly speaking FFP is still in force, but clubs can add together 20/21 and 21/22, and then divide the result by two to get an average profit/loss for each year. They can then exclude losses directly related to Covid when assessing the allowable loss (which is €5m/year, or €30m if the shareholders cover the difference). The result is that, if you have owners with deep pockets, they can cover the Covid-related losses, and up to €25m/annum of "normal" losses. Without knowing the extent of the Covid losses at an individual club it's difficult to assess whether they will be up against the FFP threshold....and of course we won't know until the end of 21/22. For those splashing the cash now, one would think that logically they will be spending a lot less NEXT summer. Inevitably the result of this change to the rules means that clubs with rich owners will have a significant advantage. The big spenders this time round are Chelsea, Villa, Everton and Leeds. Man Utd may spend some serious dosh tomorrow.

Agree, I think they have added themselves to the clubs we are unlikely to finish above.

In my opinion the mini league is:

Newcastle
West Ham
Southampton
Palace
Albion
WBA
Burnley
Sheff Utd
Fulham

When you consider that 3 of those teams (Sheff Utd, Southampton and Burnley) finished more than 10 points ahead of us last season, it makes this season's task seem more difficult than last year.

I’d take West Ham and Saints out of that (unless Ings gets injured). So 3 from 7. Fortunately Fulham and West Brom look sh**house. But the third spot worries me, especially with how thin our squad looks for a condensed season.

Too early to take them out. The beginning of the season is always erratic. We’ll have a much better idea after 10 games.

With the Blades denied THAT GOAL at Villa Park.

Summer 2020 would’ve been opportune for Villa and West Ham to drop, because once they survived, they weren’t going to allow a repeat of that near miss.

Don't forget the disallowed goal for Palace as well. Much as I hate Palace that win effectively saved Villa.

This exactly . . . . Liverpool had a bad day, and Villa played well, but 3 goals were massive flukes, the table ithis early is somewhat misleading.

The way Manure lost to Palace and SPuds really does highlight how unlucky we were.
