Probably timely to share this edit of Bryan Wade's magnificent achievement at the Goldstone Ground when he hit all four of our goals against the Magpies in January 1991.

There is one clip of this match on YouTube already. Sadly, it doesn't have all of Wade's goals. So I thought it'd be worth making a video which does! Hopefully, they'll wheel Wade out as the half-time guest on Saturday...

What the f*** was happening at the kick off. Gus would do his nut!

He would also have been livid at the referee allowing the opposition to take that free-kick with a half-volley!

Great vid remember the night well.

Seems odd now seeing the goalkeepers pick up back passes now.

What ever happened to Brian Wade?

The only home game I missed that season because I was on a training course for work. Couldn't believe the result when I got in my car to come home at 10 o'clock that night. Gutted I wasn't there to see it!

Not the real one
Shocking crowd that night - 7684

That was pretty much the norm in those days. Then, we'd get in the top 6 and have double that figure the next game. we have picked up more die hards over the years dispite Gillingham and Withdean. Being starved of the Albion has brought alot of fans back!

edited to add, i think iwas in the south that night and i just noticed that the singing was STILL too fast, even back then!

Also forgot what a good player Clive Walker was.

I was there in the North Stand. Really good game - thought we were dead and buried. What a terrible pitch though, was the Goldstone always that bad? It doesn't seem that way looking back.

If I remember rightly, the 1st Gulf War started that night, got home to TV pics of rocket attacks.

The pitch condition stems from the decision to play the Boxing Day match against Bristol Rovers that season. The weather was apocolyptic, but the game stayed on. It set the tone on the pitch for weeks after that.
I remember the game, I was in the North Stand. It was yet another strange event in which Newcastle United were the better side yet Albion won again, a bit like the Watford home match that month as well.
Twas a strange season.

Seriously, the evidence from the highlights backs up my memories of him. Absolute turd.

Why did we always kick off with a Wendy Wilkins punt into the right corner? Never made sense to me then.

I never saw anything come of the famous kick off punt-ever. I wish someone could correct me. I think that's a little harsh on Walker. The one thing he always seemed to do was run hard at defenders when the rest of the midfield seemed to avoid that.

Bryan Wade 9 goals in 7 full appearances at the top level 4 the Albion, no one has bettered that or ever will
Also no one has ever scored 4 goals in a league match against Newcastle since

I read that he also scored a hat-trick for the reserves against Southampton. What a hero!
