On the “fixtures” subject. It’s a fuckin annoying term.
As long as the OP has made some sort of effort to check for duplicate posts, then it’s useful. Shouldn’t have to trawl through fifteen year old posts relating to a different subject even if regarding the player in question.

Agreed although I’m guilty of using the term very sparingly in the past. When used the term “fixtures” creates an air of “I’m better than you”, “ I’m a proper NSC member”, and even “Go away you lazy ****”.
Think we need to get away from this being an exclusive club and should welcome new members. Just a shame we attract some undesirables.
Mods do a good job in merging duplicates as we all strive to be the first to post something hot off the press.
Exactly, ask Graham Moseley, he had a couple of non playing injuries!!

*Before anyone jumps on this comment in the future, to be fair to Jem this was posted before Milner had to sit on a very long flight to Japan and the subsequent injury which will no doubt be announced shortly.

Hardly a minor injury, six weeks to recover, not good , last season six weeks turned to six months
Bit of a joke really. Muggins Brighton who pay his wages bear the brunt of the time off.

So Verbruggen is out for a bit. Sounds a bit funny that he did it last season, was fine to perform well in the euros but now needs, presumably some sort of operation, but OK, we'll go with it.
So let's say we loan out Rushworth and Beadle and play Steele for the first 6 weeks. Now whether Steele is any good has been done to death on here, but we've got to be thinking about what happens if Steele gets injured or suspended.
We'd then be looking at playing a keeper who has never or barely played any league football? McGill played a year somewhere in League 2 think a couple of years ago. But is he staying? Cahill presumably next in line? I don't think he's ever played a league match. Not at any level anyway.
We hope that Verbruggen is back soon enough and that it doesn't go on longer than 6 weeks, but can we rely on this happening?

We get paid for having players at the Euros. It's about 7K a day per player, starting 10 days before the tournament and until the day after their respective team gets knocked out.
The report that he sustained an injury with Brighton before the tournament seems very suspect. He certainly didn't play as if he was carrying an injury that was going to require 7 weeks recovery after getting KO'd in the semis!
There's an easy way to avoid this type of situation. Buy crap players and languish in League 2!!!

This is one hell of an opportunity for Carl Rushworth now. He can establish himself as number 1 in pre-season, no chance Fabian looks at Steele and sees a goalkeeper. Rushworth is now favourite to start the season for us and potentially he can take that chance and be our number 1 for the season. Bart to be second choice or be loaned out instead. Amazing how these situations arise.

Athletic pubalgia (aka Sportsman's hernia) is a possibility in this case. He could've conceivably played the Euros, presumably with some painkillers, with surgery planned for as soon as he was home with a 6-8 week post-surgery recovery period.
However, whilst sportsman's hernia is fairly common in professional players in the late 20s, it's not that common for a 21 year old. The anticipated timing of the return is also eyebrow raising.
