If the people working on VAR can’t get the most basic element of the offside check correct, i.e. drawing the lines from the correct defender, what’s the shitting point in having those individuals employed in that role?!

Nobody has mentioned the momentum shift in the game. If the linesman flags the Palace fans breath a sigh of relief but when the VAR decision goes their way they cheer like they've scored, the players get a lift and the dynamic totally changes.

I was a firm advocate of VAR but it's been a farce from the start. We feel hard done by, yet Chelsea were denied a penalty that could cost Potter his job, it cost them 2 points and even Peter Walton admitted It was a pen and VAR had got it wrong.

They’re really not guesswork. The still image is not the technology used to make the actual decision - it’s just a representation. But, if you did draw the line from the wrong defender as is being suggested, it doesn’t matter how accurate the technology is…

What’s the point of a still image then if it’s not used to make the decision? Might just as well rely on the linesman’s decision. And drawing parallel lines using a view from at least 10 yards behind the line of play is purely guesswork.

Another issue I see with var is how do they determine when the pass is actually made, I don’t know the physics but I assume the foot is in contact with the ball for a fraction of a second, if the action is stopped a tenth of a second too late the attacking player could have moved fraction of a metre. At full speed a player would move nearly a metre in a tenth of a second. Too much margin of error when we are talking about cm.

I believe it was noted when VAR came in that they take the first frame after the ball leaves the foot (the first frame in which there is a gap between the player's foot and the ball). It was framed around the discussion of whether 'playing the ball' means making contact, or when it leaves the foot.

I don't know that either way always offers an advantage to the attacker or the defender because there's so much variance - delay it a fraction and the defender stepping up (away from goal) is a bit further awat that before, or the defender tracking back may had pulled level with the attacker who stuttered to stay in line with the ball. Call it with the first frame the foot touches the ball, and the reverse applies.

Posted by Johnny Cantor. So that's now 3 VAR decisions in recent weeks that the PGMOL have admitted were wrong against us. And I suspect they may have to admit they were wrong in not sending MacAllister off too. The avalanche of ineptness shown by these goons is ridiculous.
