Just from what I've seen, Barco is a far superior left back, (as Hinsh would be far superior in CM or RB).

I thought it was an odd decision if i'm honest, as was to use Baleba there in pre season.

Though we won 3 nil, so it worked. Just think we should play out best team for our tough games coming up. In my mind Barco is our best left back
Pervis?

I'm so confused by what's going on at our club right now. I guess we do have a pretty massive squad right now, and if it's a choice between playing elsewhere or not playing with us, the former is obviously better for everyone (as is the case with Buonanotte, another loan I was confused by initially).

It would really suck if we find ourselves in the same position with injuries next Jan/Feb as we did last season. Having a huge squad of talented back-up players isn't much use if they're all out on season-long loans (which usually means they can't be recalled, no?).

Nothing explicit, perhaps the closest I've heard is in Milner's interview (from c5mins in) who mentions the importance of 'winning the battles against Everton'. For defenders, especially, that's going to entail in the air, and it was very noticeable that Everton used the long diagonal to Harrison as a key tactic. I think Hinsh is better than Barco in the air, and this might be the reason why he was preferred in this game -- but it's only a theory.

Fair assumption.

I wonder if Hinshelwood got the nod, as Harrison often comes inside, rather than going down the line, and it’s easier for a right footed player to thwart that.

As for Barco going out on loan, Ferdi signing or not, I’d be really disappointed.

I thought Barco had a knock at the weekend. But he was obviously being protected from injury due to this anticipated loan.

Gutted. I thought he’d get a lot of minutes this season.

Hopefully this means two things. Firstly, Perverto Carlos is close to returning. Secondly, Kadıoğlu is likely.

A first choice full back selection of Estupiñán and Kadıoğlu is top level for me. Veltman, Hinsh and Baleba can cover.

I suppose Barco thinks he should be 1st choice. I hope the Sevilla loan works out for him because he is absolute quality and I was really looking forward to seeing him.

Would be surprising. Not a gigantic shock, but surprising.

If it happens, I think not only does it say a bit about how close Ferdi is, but that Pervis and/or Solly could be closer to the pitch than we think.

Oh yeah. I forgot Solly is a really good left wing back. He might have to stick with that with Minteh and Gruda about!

This.

Thought we’d see a lot of Barco this season and a I’m bit disappointed but if we’re going to have a squad where players of his calibre can be sent out for development then we’re going to be in incredible shape.

Why are we shipping out defenders when we are already light in defence and having to play midfielders at RB and LB.
If we imagine Ferdi comes, then the pecking order for wing/full backs could be:

LB
1. Pervis
2. Ferdi
3. Barco
4. Solly
5. Baleba/Hinsh/Your Mum

RB
1. Ferdi
2. one of Veltman/Lamptey/Hinsh
3. another one of Veltman/Lamptey/Hinsh
4. Veltman/Lamptey/Hinsh
5. Solly

Is there game time to be had for Barco right now? Arguably. But there's also a strong possibility he'd be firmly sat on the bench once Ferdi comes and Pervis is back. And Barco is a little bit better than "well, he'll learn from training" level - he should play a lot. Somewhere.

Our defence is a bit of an issue . This

Also need cb’s

Strange one as date barco more than pervis from what seen .

Pervis was horrific after his injury .

Ferdi is predominantly a left back !

Totally understand the logic of loaning him out, especially if Kadioglu is close, but will be disappointed as I think he’s great and was really looking forward to watching more of him.

Slightly surprised too as, and I appreciate it was a friendly, I thought he was excellent against Villareal and really suited to our new system - far more so than Veltman on the other side.

I think he is going because he is too good. He shouldn’t be a second or third choice full back. That’s his lot here.

We should be keeping him happy. He could do so well for us in the future. Then I think we could get the same amount or more that we got for Cucurella one day.

I disagreed with RDZ wanting to send him on loan and I disagree with loaning him now. I wonder if it’s because Barco wants a good chance of playing in most games rather than being cover

I thought he was looking good and a likely first teamer this season

I think that there is a good chance that he won’t want to come back if he shines in Spain

I’m sure I’ll get over it as we hang around the top 4 this season :lolol:

Yes, Pervis looks close to a return and as you say, Pervis on the left and Ferdi on the right makes an awesome fullback duo. Barco could be back up but a season long loan ( with no buy option as stated) means he gets good game time in a very strong league.
What it also does is mean that Baleba and Hinshelwood get game time in those roles as well as in midfield.
What it says to me is that physicality is going to be key to the way Fabian wants us to play.
What a place to be loaned to as well. Beautiful city, Seville.

One additional thought is that if Pervis regains his form which I think he will due to him getting over his injury, I can see him being the target of some large bids in summer 2025.
Take the money and replace with a physically more mature Barco. It’s the way we do things.

None of those LBs are currently available to us other than the midfielders masquerading as full backs. Baleba should never play fullback. Lamptey has stopped being a footballer and is a training dummy for our physios. Solly, who knows if he will ever be back.

So are actual options are:

LB:

1. Pervis (when fit)
2. Hinsh/My Mum

RB

1. Veltman
2. Hinsh/My Mum

Yup, its a bit unlucky and I understand the frustration, but the club itself of course can't be that hormonal about it... Any decision needs to be based on the 9 months ahead of us, not what it looks like today.

I wonder if it has anything to do with struggling to find a move for Lamptey. With his injury record I doubt clubs are queuing up to take him. His contract expires next year (unsure if we have a years option) so maybe that’s the idea of a loan. Use Lamptey as back up for one last season and let Barco get 30-40 games in a top league under his belt
