I cannot remember the name of the restaurant (Los Toneles rings a bell) but there is a fantastic one adjacent to Xatvia metro station opposite the bull ring. It is literally just past McDonalds and before you reach Hotel Sorolla on the right hand side. Both for Seafood lovers and meat eaters. Walk down the calle de San Vicente Martit towards the cathedral and you will find a fantastic Tapas restaurant on the left hand side called Sagardi. Upmarket but very reasonably priced and you can haggle a free bottle of wine out of them.

As for Valencia itself - it really is underated in my opinion. Make sure you take a walk down to the city of science and arts which comes out near where the F1 Grand Prix street circuit is. The superb Aquerium is also down there too. Also, the view from the top of the Cathedral is superb.
Where the F1 circuit is located on the Malvarossa beach are loads and loads of restaurants and bars which are a little bit pricey but lovely to sit out on the promenade watching the sun go down. The beach itself is quality and very clean. If you get a chance, go for a drink in the Hotel Las Arenas or Hotel Neptune or better still try and book a cheap deal in these gems! Real quality!

One thing I will see, similarly to Barcelona is that the amount of pickpockets out there is unbelievable. Just keep an eye out and you will be fine.

if you get the chance to visit the mestalla do it. there is a tidy little bar outside as well that when i went over in 2005 was owned by the chap who goes to EVERY spain game and is shown on a constant basis on television with his drum. tell him you are a football fan from england and it GUARNATEES a round of free drinks, a photo and a go on the drum

Just out of interest how expensive (relative to other european destinations) is Valencia? Perhaps compared to Portugal (Algarve) if anyone has been?

I found Valencia to be very reasonable. It is expensive if you go to restaurants or bars around the Cathedral - like it is in Barcelona down la Rambla. As I said in my previous post, the restaurants and bars along the Malvarossa beach promenade are very expensive but the atmosphere in them is fantastic! If you are staying in the city centre itself, just hop on a metro then a tram down to Neptune tram stop and you are there!

How strange, I too am going to Valencia this weekend.

I fly out on Sunday but am going out there for a work thing so probably won't get to see much of the place. The first thing I did was check the fixtures, but unfortunately Valencia are playing away from home :(

just booked a flight from Bristol for the 15th May. I believe Valencia are at home on the sunday - final game of the season. Has anyone ever been to the Mestalla? Any idea how to buy tickets/can you buy at the ground? Would love to see Valencia whilst over there.

If you have time to walk down to the seafront and check out the beach............ Don't bother. Waste of time if you are looking for a bar.

The city centre is a much better bet.

Go into any El Corte Ingles department store in Valencia and you shouldnt have any trouble purchasing a ticket. Alternatively try the club shop near Colon metro stop.

I went with my bro in law to watch Arsenal in the champs league in 2003?? ish
A great place for eating and drinking. The ground is good but they have speakers in there to boost the noise!!!
When we went it was the festival of sound/ noise!!!

Great Place

i saw there final game in 2004-05. the atmosphere was brilliant and i really really liked the ground. there were plenty of touts about around outside and i think you could buy at the ground as well

if you get the chance to go to the training ground as well, then do. its quite a way out of the town but the facilities are great and there is a strong chance you can meet the players. we were on a football tour out there at the time on which we drew 1-1 with their accademy team (none of them ever made it suprisingly!), and just by hanging around the training ground we got autographs with most of the valencia squad and the spain squad as they were training there prior to an international at the mestalla
