[Finance] Utility companies have you fixed for a new deal ?

Seems to be quite a popular discussion topic whether at work or in the pub have you been offered a fixed deal by your supplier or do you want to stay on a variable tariff ? Our current supplier Ovo Energy have offered us a one or two deal at current unit and standing charge rate. Looking at the market there doesn't appear to be a simple solution.

With Octopus. Have been on capped SVR a few years, but fixed 2 weeks ago.

Martin Lewes suggested if the fix is more than 3% less than the new April price cap its worth doing, it was around 5% less.

Alleged prices will drop again in summer and rise later in year, but looking at Russia war and destroying of Oil refineries, which has bumped petrol prices, I took the extra £15pm off of April price cap and fixed it. Plus it had no exit fees so could in theory fix again if lower price elsewhere. It's all a bit of gamble!

Got moved to Octopus from Shell Energy. Latest bill seems quite reasonable apart from the standing daily charges, which I assume are high from all providers.

Was like you moved to them when Avro went tits up, but happy with them and seem pretty fair.

Go here is my advice

….re OVO they up until recently offered a competitive 1 year fix to existing customers only which was also fee exit free if you changed ‘in house’ ….with the price cap due to drop by a reasonable amount come July, I’m personally waiting to see what products appear after that

On Martin Lewis’s TV prog, he just said fix now if you want surety and the current fixed deals eg Octopus are cheaper than the predicted price cap numbers. Subject to … check on a comparison site first for your circumstances.
