I’m not super keen on the use of “gammons” becoming a commonly used term now. Ironically by those denouncing hate speech.

I could be wrong, but isn’t this a discriminatory term based on skin colour and age? Not sure I understand why that’s suddenly acceptable.

Incorrect. 100 % of the population use pronouns.
No they use pronouns.

He is talking about pro nouns. They get paid for naming stuff.

I have a friend who is transitioning, and i sometimes get the pronoun wrong as i have called them he for years. They know its by accident when it slips out, but it's when people don't try because they're too thick or ignorant that upsets them. How hard is it to call someone by what they want to be called? Is it okay if i walk up to you and call you something you dislike, calling you a **** or other derogatory terms, is it okay for me to say that to you just because its what i believe? Should it be okay for me to call a person of colour the N word? no, so sort yourselves out, take 20 seconds to change your ****ing email signature

Sorry there is a big difference between calling someone a known derogatory term and accidently misidentifying their chosen gender.

Your friend is obviously forgiving about you accidently referring to them as he but are they the same when others do the same (obviously I'm asking not knowing at what stage of transitioning your friend has reached, ie are they now obviously female!).

They are still in the transitioning phase, So looks like a very feminine man, and tries to look feminine, but understands that they do look male. So they are very forgiving if people accidently mis-identify, but are unforgiving if you purposely mis-identify.

i tend not to assume the gender of anyone online, since its difficult to know without explicit reference, and usually doesnt matter a jot. i dont claim to tell what people do or dont prefer, so find this ironic you are telling me i'm wrong to have a view, because you assume i'm non-binary.

I mean, you literally said the following;

"pronouns is a manufactured sensitivity, it doesnt normally matter if someone gets it wrong accidentally."

So it kinda sounds like you do. Because you are.

I think it's meant to be a retaliation from the more left leaning Millennial snowflakes towards the right sided boomer gammons. I agree however, as a left leaning millennial snowflake, that gammon is a phrase i'm seeing a bit too much.

No, it’s from Charles Dickens.
Yes, there is humour about old overweight men getting outraged and red in the face, but the definition is from the book Nicholas Nickelby.

The time had been, when this burst of enthusiasm would have been cheered to the very echo; but now, the deputation received it with chilling coldness. The general impression seemed to be, that as an explanation of Mr. Gregsbury’s political conduct, it did not enter quite enough into detail; and one gentleman in the rear did not scruple to remark aloud, that, for his purpose, it savoured rather too much of a 'gammon' tendency.

The meaning of that term—gammon,' said Mr. Gregsbury, 'is unknown to me. If it means that I grow a little too fervid, or perhaps even hyperbolical, in extolling my native land, I admit the full justice of the remark. I am proud of this free and happy country. My form dilates, my eye glistens, my breast heaves, my heart swells, my bosom burns, when I call to mind her greatness and her glory

With due respect it is not just about an email signature. It will also be about how you address people who opt to choose how you address them. I don't have a problem with that but there seems to be a militant element that seem to want to persecute anyone that makes an innocent mistake in addressing someone incorrectly. Of course if someone is deliberately addressing them wrong then that can be hate speech but there seems to be a fine line between the two and it's not always easy to tell.

Do you have any examples of people being persecuted for accidentally misgendering someone?

a fair cop. that's to say if i refer to Sam or Mandy from account as "he" when they are a "she" or vice versa, having not met them, i assume no offence is intended or found. maybe you're right and there is a horde of people incandescent they are being refered to in the third person incorrectly.

But in many situations, it's the vocal minority that get the media attention!!

Unfortunately very true. The modern phenomena of 24 hour rolling news and social media just means the loudest voices get traction because they prefer controversy to news.

The outrage at such small but meaningful efforts is merely the last howl of a dying attitude. The final throes of an outdated school of thought, no longer fit for purpose.
As Darwin said, those species with the ability to adapt, survive.
Adapt or perish.

And how exactly are LGBTTTQQIAA going to adapt to survive ?
