These two will never be contenders but I really enjoyed them when I lived in the States

I am sorry if your preferred option(s) did not make it through.

I want a high quality, shorter tournament. 32 teams felt too bulky, and I didn't want the complications/messy group endings that a 24 team tournament would entail.

Think of this as like an old school Euros tournament. Strong groups.

The 16 Contestants who qualified for the US Comedy Cup 2024 are;

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Flight of the Conchords
The Simpsons
Family Guy
South Park
Frasier
The Office (US)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Archer
Cheers
The Big Bang Theory
M*A*S*H
Parks & Recreation
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Police Squad
Arrested Development

There will be NO seeding, groups drawn using a randomiser website.

Groups to be announced at some point soon.

Who does everyone back for the prize?

Glad Seinfeld got a mention, but most successful and popular comedy in US history didnt make your top 16??

And not a single person mentioned Friends?

Meh

I think this could be a very open tournament. I reckon there are shows there that plenty of people won't know too much about so some well selected clips could see a huge swell of support for them.

I too was very surprised at the lack of Seinfeld, even after I dropped the name in to see if it gained some traction. Friends was mentioned but didn't get 2 mentions, as is required.

Much like major tournaments though, you do see an Italy or a France sit out every so often.

Personally, the ones that would comfortably make MY 16 but have not made it;

Bob's Burgers (far prefer it to Family Guy now)
Seinfeld
Nathan For You (far too niche so I didn't bother, but it is utter genius, one of the best things I've seen in years)
An argument to be made for the original Jackass series as well.

Nathan For You is fantastic but figured it wouldn't have had much of a chance in this!

Did many people in the UK watch Seinfeld? I don't think I've watched a single episode and I barely knew anything about it until I moved to Canada where most people here have watched it.

Are shows like The Simpsons and Friends simply too ubiquitous? Surely Homer will make it through?

9 have qualified. 7 spots remain.
I suspect the age demographic on NSC will count against the Simpsons.

Having said that, we past the point a few years ago when new graduates who I talk to at work don't get the Simpsons references I casually throw into conversation.

Young people are shit.

Since it focused heavily on romantic relationships and social interaction, it was always unlikely to appeal to NSC's key demographic.

"The One with the Wrong Target Audience." ;)
