I give you Chapman's Stick - invented by our very own left back and coach Ian Chapman no less*:

I used to have a very small one when I was little. Either I, or sometimes someone else, used to pop it in the mouth. However, when giving it a good plucking, it's important not to smash your front teeth in. You can't pluck it for too long without getting bored.

At Lark in the Morning (www.larkinam.com) they not only have instruments I've never heard of, they have instruments from places I've never heard of.

If anybody has an Indonesian Nose Harpsichord in stock, they do.

Fascinating web site.

OK, so what's unusual about this guitar then ????

Since 5-string basses are hardly that unusual, perhaps it's that the fretboard looks like it's over-layed onto the body? Maybe so it can have extra frets or something?

Or perhaps it's made from a single piece of wood, so that the neck is integral with the body?

No it's a cock up by me, it was supposed to be Roger McGuinn's 5 string jangly guitar which he apparently had made specially for him which then went into limited production
