Unlimited Broadband fair use policy

I got a letter from Orange Broadband today telling me that if I do not reduce my internet usage they will cancel my account. This is despite the fact that I pay a premium to have supposedly unlimited broadband.

Apparently our household monthly average is over 50gb which does sound like a lot but if I'm paying for unlimited I expect unlimited.

Does anyone know if there are providers out there who offer TRULY unlimited broadband or does everyone have a fair use policy they can throw back in your face if you're a heavy user?

Check your terms and conditions. It probably mentions that your usage is capped at a certain level.

As far as I'm aware. no-one offers true unlimited usage. They all have a fair usage policy. But once you start downloading video, it can really chomp the usage up.

What's irritating is that they don't say what is deemed as fair usage, and BT Openworld don't give me a method of viewing what I've used, so how am I supposed to know if I've gone over with a certain period of time?

Its effectively unenforced, if you phone up tech support and ask them to check for warnings in IDA they'll be able to tell you, but even if there is warnings (I've seen 60+GB on the 4GB package) they don't do jack shit really....

Again, with plus net you can view your monthly usage so far via their portal.

The first I knew of my monthly average was when this letter arrived this morning and I can see no way of keeping tab otherwise.

I'm generally fairly happy with the service I get from Orange but am worried my account could be cancelled without me having a choice in the matter. If they don't tell me what I'm using how am I supposed to cap it?

UKONLINE:

Fair Use Policy applies but turn a blind eye up to 500gb a month. :)

This only applies to thier unbundled exchanges. LLU

If you connect at an exchange that is not unbundled then there are severe restrictions because of BT's pricing.

I had the same letter a few weeks ago with AOL. They told me that I had exceded 60 Gb last month and despite paying 28 quid a month for last 2-3 years for so called "unlimited broadband" they threatened to speed restrict me and then cancel my account! Bloody Cheek of it! :censored:

Agreed. For £28 a month that is a bloody cheek!

Time to look elsewhere?
