But finishing first does guarantee them European football next season I believe.

And if Club Bruges lose tomorrow then mathematically USG will finish top.

Realistically USG are likely to seal it in a week's time at home to Oostende.

Undav looks excellent, Mitoma still raw.

Completely different. Our winners of all leagues are champions. Here side in 4th spot 15 points behind can end up as champions, Mad

Not that different. Promotion to the PL is probably the most valuable prize in world football at the moment, but rather than give it to the 3 best teams over 46 games, they give it to the 2 best and then the winner of a knockout play off, which is a bit of a lottery.

At least the points total is carried through in this case so all four teams in contention have everything to play for up to the end of the regular season. One of the most annoying things about 15/16 was not only that our 15 point advantage over Sheffield Wednesday gave us no benefit when playing them, but also that they couldn’t have finished any lower than sixth so we’re able to rest their first choice 11 while we were going all guns blazing against Middlesbrough 6 days before the first leg.

No. There is a 4-way play-off competition for the winner. Absolute madness imho.

Thankfully, the points obtained during the regular season do get taken into account. They get halved (and rounded up) before the start of the playoff. As it stands RUSG would start the 6 game league with a 5 point advantage over their closest rivals.

Do think our play off system for third promotion place is in place to keep interest for more teams until end of season. In Belgium looks like money making and to give clubs like Bruge another chance to get in champions league if they dont finish top

Yes to money making for top teams, no to giving certain teams an advantage. If anything it takes away the advantage from the leading teams and gives a chance for the smaller teams

Why does is give advantage to big teams like Bruge? The rules are the small for everyone when the season kicks off; it’s not as if they’re only implemented when a surprise package like USG ends the season in top position.

As for money making, I guess it is in that it keeps the competition alive and interesting for paying fans and casual TV viewers for the duration of the regular season. Football is an enetertainment industry after all.

Dont mean it gives sides like Bruge an advantage but in place to give them another chance to get in championship league if they have an unusual poor season and finish third or fourth. Just seems odd that a winner of a good quality league may not qualify for Championship League

The opposing view is that Brugge should be top two every year.
Therefore, it works as a disadvantage to them, as they then have to compete in another tournament at the end of the season when they may have injured players or suspensions.
I think they would rather take their chances over a full season
