I thought it was called the job centre, not the benefit claiming place.
When I was looking for work I found that the JobCentre was a waste of time. Checking on-screen for vacancies on a regular basis was near enough pointless because you would ring up the employer and get told they weren't taking any more applications or they would send out a form , I would fill it in and then hear nothing back. The only way to get back into work is to lower your expectations , take agency work and hope something better turns up either through the job adverts in newspapers or word of mouth. Every time I went into the JobCentre it was apparent that their priority was to sort out benefit claims for the scroungers , druggies , pikeys , chavs and chipshop scum , if you were looking for work then you were off the radar.

Talking of South Africa, I'm planning on getting over there for some of the Lions games in June and possibly the England cricket tour in December. Would love to meet up with KZNSeagull for a beer if he's thinking of going to any of the games.:drink:

Wont be going to the Rugby Im afraid, but may catch a day in Durban for the cricket. PM me nearer the time if you are coming and would love to meet up if we can.

Should I find more real-life agencies?

For sure. Register with every decent local-based (i.e. County-wide) agency with local knowledge who can often fill roles without having to advertise nationwide (which will bump up the number of applicants to a level they can't cope with. Believe it). Oh, and be prepared to compromise on your salary expectations. You can always make up that money later. Good luck!

I am registered with two real-life agencies, and then all the intenet people I could find (monster, Uni jobshop, express and star, reed, etc, etc.)

Should I find more real-life agencies?

Well it depends on what you're looking for. I am registered with a whole load of agencies via Jobserve, Jobsite and a few others. Monster are a waste of time in my experience, in two years they have told me about just two jobs. both of which completely unsuitable. To be honest some agencies are better than others but most of the time it's down to the individuals that work there as much as the agency.

welcome to the real world!!!

Held down a job at College and Uni, so I've been very much part of the real world since I was 16!:bigwave:

It's your right to do so of course (and then show off over how you're playing the system), but please spare the rest of us your whinging, whiney "scrounging assylum seeker" rants next time a pro-BNP thread appears, eh.

Not strictly speaking as the last sentence from Algie would suggest he has no intention of seeking a job.
