Hope he doesn't change his mind in a couple of years for another big pay day and finishes on top

Sound decision by Joe. He's not getting any younger and if he goes on eventually he will come up against someone younger, stronger, fitter and faster who will give him a real beating. There are too many old boxers around (and many who are no longer still around) who have gone on taking 'one more fight' and paid dearly for it.

Oh, and by the way, as for only fighting bums, you should check out the credentials of some of Marciano's opponents too!

Calzaghe and Hatton couple of pussies. Georges St.Pierre would have them both same night!

Shame he wasted his younger years either being injured or fighting bums

Injuries cant be helped.

As for fighting bums, most of the top fighters dodged him to be honest.
Shame he couldnt have had his last few fights 5 years ago, but as i say 5 years ago he was untouchable and nobody wanted to face him.

i think joe's carear was slightly overated, i also believe that hopkins was the better of two when they thought and the decision should of went hopkins way.

I think he failed to impress in so many bouts which were normally due to injuries and his motivation. Can't knock his performances in the bigger fights Hopkins aside.
The Kessler fight was his best result imo

Nah he won that Hopkins fight for sure. There was never a doubt in my mind he had done more than enough.

Hopefully (and I think he will), he'll go down the Lennox Lewis route and resist any offers to

lure him into a comeback. I can completely understand why he's made this choice, given that he must be more than financially secure, he's retired undefeated and with nothing left to accomplish, not to mention his health being intact.

I'm sure he'll stay involved in the sport (I think he's just started his own promotional company), and I wish him the best of luck, he's one of the best fighters to come out of Britain.
