are they not in a major recession in New Zealand then? ?

Makes no odds Rustyhole, he is retiring and going to live out in the sticks to avoid the crowds. Probably less chance of agro in the NZ wilds then there is on Waterloo Road where he currently resides.

Do you have a point? People get hurt in NZ too? Stag do's in NZ are dangerous? Drink and you might upset someone? Please do tell, I'm sure that everyone is really excited to find out zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Well, you said your mate was moving to New Zealand as he believed we are on the cusp of a GLOBAL financial breakdown. If he is moving there because of this, then that seems strange as they are as deeply in recession as us and any global meltdown would affect them as much as us...if he wanted to move to New Zealand because he wants to chill and there is less chance of hassle in the wilds of NZ than on Waterloo Rd, then surely, that is a different reason all together?

When Lokki mentioned his mate was moving to NZ because of the global financial meltdown. I understood what he meant. Why didn't you. Its not rocket science

Yes, it's well dodgy on Waterloo Road! A young girl was killed a couple of weeks ago, and there are some very strange charactors there!

If you don't believe me, watch it tonight, 8pm BBC1!

Hmmm. The thread is by someone who bought shares that had not bottomed-out yet, and has therefore lost money already.
Yet they ask if this was a good investment?

Consider the mathematics here for a second, of buying something for a pound, then doubling your money at the sale. Do that just a dozen times;
10/20/40/80/160/320/640/1,280/2,560/5,120/10,240/20,480.

How long would it take you to do that, do you think?

NOW you're thinking.

For the argumentative among you (no, way - not on NSC surely?), you don't have to exactly double the amount every time, as long as the ladder still leads upwards.

Or - you could bet on horses or put on the stock market, until you lose everything.

As an Independent Financial Adviser my advice (for free) is that because something is cheap does not necessarily mean it is a bargain or will become fairly valued in the future?

I would opt for HSBC if you were looking to buy a bank share, or better still a collective investment such as a unit trust where your money is pooled to buy a number of stocks.

Tracker funds are low cost & if one takes the view that the market is cheap then you will be diversifying risk by not investing in just one stock.

On the other hand, it is not necessarily so much fun or stressful in holding one stock!

I thought it was 60% of HBOS & 40% of Lloyds?

Either way I'm happy. I must say in all my wildest dreams I never thought I'd ever own a bank. I intend to pay myself a huuuuge bonus tomorrow and eat some poor people. Depending on how the day goes I might even retire.
