I see quite a few 'left wing' board 'members' putting the hate on UKIP in this thread, surely UKIP is a good thing if you are left wing as it will divide the right wing vote.

Any labourites in Hove tempted to put up UKIP posters in their windows and vote labour?

Which is why I've never been able to vote for them since Blair.

The party is infested with sneering urban types like above.

I separate my politics from political parties. I find it fascinating that people cheer a party like a football team as if the party is telling them what to bellef rather than the other way round.

I don't vote as I've said that many times on here. Personal circumstances make it a waste of time statistically having never lived in a constituency where it makes a difference.

My personal opinion is that UKIP's "power" or rather the media fascinationing with them is simply damaging and splitting the Tories. Hard to call the next election. Today I would bet on a tiny Labour majority, but who knows ?

But I would still last night have seen a conservative victory, and last night after question time I found myself I could almost vote for a party led by Ken Clarke.... But only almost.

I think the General Election will be fascinating, and possibly very depressing, but if it is what people want........

I wouldn't be so certain that UKIP won't also take votes from Labour. The by election in Manchester (Stockton?) earlier this year showed that. With Labour's impending disaster in Scotland, this could be enough to keep them out of power.

Ken Clarke sounded more left wing than Andy Burnham. I wonder if Clarke will end up leaving the Tories ... although there's nowhere really for him to go to. Perhaps he should start a British Christian Democrat-like party

If Labour want to win back supporters from UKIP, why did the Labour guy on Question Time once again have to mention BNP in the same conversation as UKIP, seriously it pisses people off. After 15 years, it's now OK for Labour to talk tough on immigration and restricting benefits to migrants for 2 years, but it's not OK for UKIP to call for a proper immigration system. Labour are seriously not winning anyone over at the moment.

It was near Rochdale and UKIP polled 11000 votes, narrowly behind the labour candidate with 1000 more. I think the reason that one thinks that they will split the right-wing vote, is because there have been by-elections of late in two tory strongholds, obviously Rochdale accepted, and on here it is the hope from some that this will happen. I can't help feeling that this is not just the case for the tories, as Labour know they they too could end up with a bloody nose, hence the recent announcement about immigration. Immigrants tend to settle together and this tends to be in poorer areas, which puts pressure on public services in those areas. With the best will in the world, it is inevitable that tensions will rise in predominantly labour-supporting parts of industrial towns. The snobbery shown yesterday will only fuel the belief that the Westminster "champagne socialists" are so out of touch and encourage yet more disillusionment. We can call UKIP voters "racist" (that good old term brought out time and time again) but until people's fears about what they perceive as excessive immigration are allayed, UKIP will continue to grow. You can say to immigration that enough is enough, and needs limiting or even stopping, and not be a "racist", believe it or not.

This is pure speculation designed to fuel your own prejudices, and quite clearly has no factual base. People are worried about the future, and the vast majority do NOT seek racial confrontation -we in Britain have a long history of tolerance and long may it live, but clearly large numbers feel that enough is enough.

Ok, ex-BNP members didnt seek to be UKIP candidates, and in some cases, didnt really get the the job.
