Forgive me if I am wrong, but at the end of the league one champions season Gus said that to make a serious challenge in the Championship we would need to bring in 6 - 7 players......
Now I am assuming at the time he was not expecting Bennett & Murray to leave. So if that is the case, the new lads Hoskins & now Buckley are just replacements for the two which have left, so logic tells me we still need 6 - 7 players, do you agree..? :glare:

I actually think he knew Murray and Bennett were leaving, so that 6-7 players, was including their replacements

It may even be 8 players as Gus wasn't banking on a centre half but now is.
Another striker even with Buckley and Hoskins is a cert. A left winger (hopefully KLL), maybe 2 midfielders to fill the gap that Batti, Kish, Baz (maybe Navarro) have left.

I think they knew Murray/Bennett were leaving as well and they were kept quiet until replacements were sorted. I cant see us bringing any more then another 5 players in.

still very early days, didn`t Gus say he wanted most targets in for pre-season so that gives him four weeks and he`s just come back from Uruguay.
no doubt stephenson and co have been working behind the scenes.

It'll still be 6 if we are serious about doing well...

Abort, retry, fail
It seems quite clear that Gus managed to persuade Elliott to stay and finish the job and he could leave at the end of the season if he still wanted to. A gentleman's agreement.

We are not privy to all discussions and plans. I also believe that Gus realised that Murray was not going to sign on and had contingency plans in place.

No drama. He wasn't forced to sell Murray in the window for the sake of a few hundred grand. He was worth that much more to us to ensure we didn't slip up near the finish line.

I don't think we should cling on to every number we are fed. It might be more or less than the rough guide of six or seven.

10 including development squad players sure, but 6-7 including the 2 big names I reckon. 2 Chelsea lads counting towards the 10 if want to go that way.

Was thinking the same thing Rockypaul. We certainly need 4 more quality players at a minimum. Exciting times.

sorry Bradders have I read that right.. your worried because the squad may be smaller ?? im not sure of exact numbers but the 5 or 6 plus Benno and Murray is 7 or 8 if we get 5 or 6 in that will cover us.. the 3 you mentioned plus Sandaza and Holroyd played just 15 games combined, we need quality not numbers.
