Has anyone on here been to Twickenham before?

I'm going in a couple of weeks time to see England take on Argentina and wondered if anyone had been and had any general advice.

Is it easy to get to? Is it a decent enough place?

and...

what do you think of england playing in purple?

bit of a hike from the station, but its not too bad when you are in a crowd and there are plenty of distractions on the way. if you want a pint, the cabbage patch just down the road from the station is a decent enough venue - lots of points to get served, a good atmosphere and most importantly they usually fire up a bbq. just turn left when you come out the station, over the bridge and it is about 100 metres away on the right

it can take a f***ing age to get served inside the stadium if you go at the busy times - apart from that, and the amount of steps if you are in the top tier, it is a great great venue to watch sport in

Its about 15-20 minutes from the station depending on which stand you're in, I love Twickenham and generally its not a problem getting served in the ground for a major game when all the bars are open, having a beer in your seat is great. Plenty of decent bars around the area the cabbage patch outside the station is usually hectic a lot of people head to Richmond after the game most pubs in the area are Fullers.

The purple kit - I'm not a fan.

Easy to drive to. Straight up the M3 from the M25 and you can't miss it on your left.

head for the mahoosive tetleys beer tent in the west stand car park after the game (while the hoards of people queue for the station) great atmosphere, always a sing-song for a couple of hours, and the station is clear when you get there.

The wait at Twickenham Station afterwards if you're slow off the mark is a bit tedious but a lot more enjoyable than waiting with the oiks you get at Wembley. You cannot fail to enjoy the experience although you may wonder why the Argies are not going to have Hernandez at stand off

As someone else mentioned, walk back to Richmond after the game; it's not very fair and you're more likely to get on a train (the boozers will be less crowded too).

get the train from brighton to clapham.
then the train to twickers.
cabbage patch (if you can get served) or the one across the road.
10-15 mins walk to ground from there

if going by train go to richmond and drink there. Shuttle bus from richmond to outside the ground 50p and takes about 20mins. do the same on the way back and the bus is free best way to avoid the crowds

Be warned, changing at Clapham Junction can be fatal as the trains are heaving out of Waterloo.

Everytime I've been it has been terrific however I have always has a corporate jolly with free meal and drinkies so totally sloshed by the end.

I'd get the train from Waterloo - there's a risk you won't get on at Clapham if you're going in a group.

Drinks before hand in the Twickenham Club if you know a member, never had a problem getting served in the ground. Go via Richmond on the way back - Twickenham is insane (makes me wonder how Falmer will handle it).

Superb stadium, great views, good singing and banter. Definitely not just full of hoorays with hampers. You'll be hooked.
