USA Deaths/1m Pop: 167

Luxemburg Deaths/1m Pop: 141

UK Deaths/1m Pop: 305

Spain Deaths/1m Pop: 496

Italy Deaths/1m Pop: 441

World Deaths/1m Pop: 26

Trump may be a **** but he's getting the math right.

No, this is far too simplistic for a comparison and shows nothing - the USA is a huge country and many states have barely had any cases yet. The other countries in the comparison are much smaller and have a much more dense population.

We could look at a more comparable area and population that shows the opposite - e.g. New York state has 854 deaths per 1m pop.

(Using a population of 19.44 million and number of deaths 16599 as of 25th April, from Wikipedia)

The Midwestern States are very dense.

You failed to recognise that the US is vast, with covid wiping out many 1,000's in states as it spreads - NY and NJ have awful death tolls per capita.

The Midwestern States are very dense.

They are, and they were lucky that they had only had relatively few cases when they put in lockdown orders. Had they been the first states to get the virus they could be in a just as bad, or worse, position than new York.

I'm not trying to support or refute the statement that Trump has handled the crisis well by the way - I'm just stating that the number of deaths per 1m of population is a poor metric to compare countries by, for a number of reasons - population density being one. Another is how much time the country had to prepare for the virus - it appears the USA had more time than Italy, for example.

It's the same as saying China only have 4,633 deaths compared to its population of 1.39 billion. It's misleading as Hubei itself has 3212 deaths with a population of 59 million, and the rest of China was barely touched. (I'm ignoring any questions over their figures being accurate, the point still stands).

How could the death toll per capita possibly be more than one?

New York State's death per capita is 0.001135.
Germany's covid death per capita is 0.000071.

Both are valid statements.

So NY is suffering far more deaths per capita, than the West's shining light Germany, 16x as many.

Also those with no health insurance and who die at home won't figure in their statistics.

So this seems like it must be a joke. It's not.

Trump just retweeted this fake video from an account called Trump and Biden are Rapey.

We live in strange times indeed!

I wonder now that even with Trump's total stupidity that he has now gone too far, even with his cretinous supporters.
To say he was being sarcastic when he clearly wasn't as he was looking at his advisors at the time and then to say that there is no point in carrying on with the briefings because of the stupid questions from the media, when he picks who asks the questions and often saying "good question" whilst vilifying the ones he doesn't like.
Even fans of Trump like Piers Morgan have either gone very quiet or have said he has gone to far.
I would have thought that even the most dimwitted fan of Trump can now see him for what he is.

You’d like to think so wouldn’t you, however some Trump supporters are a special kind of stupid, and he’s still favourite for a second term.

But he has dug himself a massive hole that even he will struggle to bullshit his way out of.
He either will never do another briefing (which means he cannot tell the world how great he is and can't do an election broadcast) or he reappears and gets pelters from the press.
I hope he shows up tonight but no way will he take questions from journos he doesn't like, I hope other journos grow some balls instead.

Indeed they are. One, of many, interviews with Trump’s f***wit supporters was about the dangers of climate change. One intransigent woman, when asked to comment stated - “We’ve always had climate change. It’s called Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.”

The trouble is, even CNN’s guests said this on Saturday night after Trump ran scared, that:

1. None of this will affect his huge following, they like him and despise the media and Democrats; and

2. The scattergun approach of blaming everyone else over covid19 (from China, state governors, the Democrats in Congress, the media, sacked scientists, WHO), was not off the cuff ramblings by Trump. It was all very carefully preplanned by Trump and his Alt-Right strategists for the November poll, laying the groundwork for blaming others (to be decided) in autumn campaigning. Because he’s quite literally covered every angle, he can say in October “I told you ......on ....... April, you heard it here first folks”.

He and his team are scheming, uncaring, racist and morally bankrupt.

Agreed.
Come to think of it he never announces the death toll ( please let me know if I'm wrong but I haven't seen him announce the figures) but always announces how great and tremendous everything is going to be and how America is leading the world over this.

I reckon the strategy will be to go all out on xenophobia. For example, any attempt to criticize Trump for the way he handled Covid 19 will just be twisted back to attacking and blaming China, and then linking Biden to China. Likewise on any other topic. It’s going to be horrific.

Funny that, and I think you’re right.

It seems to be individual states doing the announcements eg CNN show the NY State press conference every day about the same time as ours.

With Worldometer and John Hopkins University constantly tallying.

Allow the Orange Blob to no doubt blame states for deaths in the autumn election campaign, that’s right down his gutter.
