I saw this thread and really hoped it wouldn't be full of what it is. Some unbelievably naive views. Irrespective of the fact that some are just holding short of celebrating an assassination attempt where an innocent died and 2 others injured which itself is disgusting. Can you imagine the massive shit show that would potentially unfold with Trump devotees if he'd actually been killed?.
I don’t think anyone is “short of celebrating”. I do suspect that there’s a lot of “well, what the f*** did you expect?” if you continually ratchet up the tension and division in a nation full of nutters with guns. They have mass shootings every day, have previous with shooting their leaders….it was inevitable.

Prayers, and more guns.

The only saving grace will be if the shooter is confirmed to be a registered Republican as reports suggest, as it will severely limit the ways Trump will be able to spin this. It might even save more lives.
Trump would probably allege that it was a 'radical Leftist' who registered as a Republican as part of an infiltration process: "See, folks, these radical Leftists are everywhere; they will stop at nothing to subvert our democracy and freedom. They'll be coming for you soon. We need to crush them."

I thought it was a perfectly valid point he made. He wasn't suggesting that anyone deserves to be the target of an assassin. He merely stated that Trump has stirred up hatred and division which is undeniable. Usually it is other people who have suffered the consequences of that hatred and division while Trump is left unscathed. This time he wasn't, he ended up with a grazed ear while two people are dead and two in a critical condition.
Who? @Hugo Rune ? Yes of course. I wasn't disagreeing with him at all. I was just layering on a bit of extra pontification

As an aside, it seems the secret service dress up exactly like they do in movies. They’re not very secret.

Right wing idiot, disappointed he can't weaponize the episode, lashes out at non-Trump supporters? Who knew?

Indeed. It hasn't passed the thick ears and into the flabby brain of the usual right wing suspects on NSC yet, though, who are accusing the likes of me (and you I'll wager) of triumphalism, revealing our wicked murderous left wing hand, etc.

Aside from the tragedy of the two deaths, this completely cements Trump as Next Prezzy, so it is lose-lose all round. A sort of inverse Gavrilo Princip situation.

The morning after the night before.
I was watching this on the news until the early hours and a couple of things went through my mind.
Firstly, the fact that he was not hit I was thinking it was a WWE set up where he had blood ready to put to his ear.
This was backed up by the fact that if the shooter was in front of him, why was no one behind hit?
Not one person on the news asked this question for hours.
Then came the news that one was killed and two seriously injured. Extremely sad.
But right now I can hear Trump saying that if everyone in the arena had a gun (just like he wants all teachers to carry a gun) then they could have shot the shooter first.
One thing is for sure, his fund raising will double this week.

Can people please calm the f*** down.

Tensions and emotions running high are understandable, but we're all largely here because we support the same football team. There isn't the same harmony when it comes to politics, of course, but respect and moderation should be used. We don't have to be part of the hatred and vitriol.

If and when I see people attacking others, rather than debating the subject. I'll remove you from the thread and/or the site as I deem appropriate.

Give others the benefit of the doubt. Be kind in your responses.

I am personally against Trump’s politics. However, regardless of how divisive Trump’s own rhetoric is, I have only abhorrence for political violence, it makes us all poorer by trying to stifle free debate.

My thoughts are with the individual who needlessly lost their life. That shouldn’t happen attending a political rally of any sort.

The gunman I have less sympathy for, violence begets violence, always. Untreated/insufficiently treated mental illness and unfettered access to firearms will always make a poor combination.

What I find surprising about this is just how lax the security is. He was just lying on a roof, did nobody think “hmm, that’s a weird place to be, maybe we should go check that”?

I’ve not been following the story but how does someone not get spotted early on a near by roof. I remember the Brighton Labour conferences year ago and they had multiple look outs all over Brighton on roofs.

Donald Dump needs to get himself a Stormzy style Glasto vest with the US flag on it for his next rally, and maybe a WW2 German helmet sprayed red and with 'MAGA' on the front.
