But you live in a democratic society where just under 600,000 people petitioned to ban Trump from the UK.. Imagine if parliament were to stand up and say "waste of time and money". Glad I don't live in a country where that happens.

Read the transcript of the 3 hour debate, and Trump is variously described as a "buffoon", a "wazzock" (not a word I've heard for years), and an "idiot". I applaud the fact that parliament debated the petition. Whether he's banned or not, the fact that parliament listened to those who signed the petition is all the more admirable.

Just a simple yes or no answer from the government would have been sensible on something like this. It didn't need a three hour debate, not when that money could have been put to much better use somewhere else.

The traditional democratic path for this country is to elect your representatives via a secret ballot, then trust them to debate and decide policy thereafter until the next election.

Now we have this ridiculous reactionary process whereby people who are offended on someonelse' behalf just jerk their knees, whatever that means, and call on parliament to waste time debating an issue which really is an irrelevance to the lives of the people of this country. The debate was not about the leader of the USA, but about whether a numpty who would like to run for leader of the USA should be allowed to visit this country which he probably has no intention of doing right now.

More wasted money by the offended left.

Cringe... I love the Trump circus, it's like something from the Simpsons. Would be entertaining to see him in power (for a few weeks at least before he brings the impending doom upon us).

600,000 numpties voted to ban him, thankfully 40-odd million didn't. Pathetic and embarrassing tit-for-tat posturing, makes us Brits look like a bunch of hand-wringing old busybodies. We might think Trump is a buffoon, we might think his rhetoric is ignorant, we might disagree with his outspoken views, but there is such a thing as freedom of speech. Banning Trump from the UK, when you look at some of the regimes who are regularly wined and dined at No10, would have been nonsensical, hypocritical and deeply embarrassing.

The only joke, we needed a 3 hour discussion on banning trump from the UK. Waste of time and money.

I would get rid of this thing of when 100k+ on a peition demand something it needs to be discussed in parliament, stupid idea we really have got better things to get on with than fringe issues like this. If there was a ban Trump and co would love it but sadly Don it aint gonna happen

What was the political breakdown of this trump vote? Im sure you must have it.

Personally, I see comedy gold in this idiot with the slang name for a fart being elected. However, that wont happen.

I agree, I just wonder how much this bullshit cost the tax payer. We could do with another two doctors where I live.

If Trump and Palin get in I reckon the next U S. President will be Vladimir Putin.

Usually, yes.

As for the Trump figures, I could not care less, the man is a fool, and the world would be a much more dangerous place were he to get in. For once in a blue moon I concur with you, I cannot see him getting in.

It'll certainly make politics interesting if a clown like Trump gets in, anyway isn't that what everyone is saying about our own clown in opposition at the moment? ???

Given the outside possibility that Trump could become the next American President, there was never any realistic possibility of his being barred from the UK and I don't think our national interest would have been served by doing so. However, I would not be so swift to dismiss the sense in having the debate nor see the need to insult those signing the petition. Yes, there is such a thing as freedom of speech. Trump is free to make whatever remarks he chooses and we remain free to voice any opposition to them that we might have. There are worrying undertones in U.S political debate right now. Witness the Muslim that was removed from a Trump rally while wearing a sweatshirt declaring that she came in peace.

For those that wish to dismiss those voicing opposition to Trump's poison, this well worn verse should serve as a reminder as to why we need "handwringing numpties"...

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Be careful out there people.
