What about Florida, not the theme park bit I mean, but one of the beach bits, like Naples, Sarasota or Clearwater.

Not exactly exotic, but easy to get to, incredibly family orientated and guaranteed hot weather.

Be a bit wary of the Caribbean in the autumn - it's prime hurricane season and though they're quite interesting experiences for adults, they're not so great for 8-month olds... (Huricane Dean is approaching the BVIs this very morning - could be just a scouting mission, I suppose).

bvi's look lovely, hurricanes seem quite exciting too.
anyone been to the dom rep. cheap and cheerful but always seems a bit chavvy

we went to martinique in november a couple of years ago, and while the weather was lovely half the time, it pissed down the rest......so yes, do be careful!
