Transfer Window

There is a thread on "Ask the Club" about the transfer window and when it opens - Insider has replied that it is the 1st July.

Can anyone clarify or confirm this as clubs seem to be buying players left,right and centre. Could the 1st July be when the the "Loan Window" opens?

I think that you can buy/sell players now. However, the FA will not process the deal and make it 'official' until 1st July.

What is the point then? Why not say it is open immediately after the end of the season. Bit strange.

It is now out of season until mid june and no registartions can be made. Why would you want clarification do you doubt Insiders word or knowledge. Knowing his position within the club I am prepared to accept that he has checked before saying this.

A player can agree a contact with a club but cannot sign until July 1.

Most contracts run until June 30, so the players who have been released by the Albion can sign for other teams, but not officially until that date. Sullivan has agreed to join Millwall but can't legally sign until his previous contract has finished. Same with Birchall and LA Galaxy.

I would imagine it's so that players who get released at the end of a season have a couple of wage packets coming as they search for a new club. Be more than a bit depressing to be released without warning and have no money coming in as you search for a new club.

This could of course be bollocks
