It's worse relatively than the Premier League.

Boro have now shelled out about £40m

Aren't they a season too late?

I didn't realise Randolph wasn't a free transfer.

Not being able to compete with Championship spending while in the Premier League takes some doing.

We might, if we don't get a decent striker in!
Maybe the Albion are just always going to be one year behind 'Boro.
Although I guarantee that run will stop in 12 months time.

On 13 May 2017 Steve Gibson gave this message to their fans:

What's the target next season?

"We want to smash the league, we want to go up as champions.

"We need to bring in the type of players to do what I said.

"We have a core of players who we feel are more than capable .We need to add to them, more flair, more pace."

Looks like Gibson is keeping his word.

Well I for one wish them well.

No, on second thoughts, I hope they burn and rot in the lower leagues for all eternity.

To be fair we have also raked in 20m + for non first team players.

Rhodes 10m - this years accounts, was on loan from Jan.
Espinosa 4m - 4th choice cb, signed for fee last summer
Husband 1m - Signed for 550k, 3rd choice left back
Fisher 3m - Signed for around the same last summer. Hardly started.
Stuani - 3m - Bit part player, signed for around the same.

Add Valdes, Guzan, Negredo, Chambers, Barragan, De Pena and De Sart all off the wage bill also.

Some good trading there, especially getting your money back on Rhodes.

I admire Gibson, he's done for Boro what TB has done for the Albion, local lad made good who's put some serious money into the team he supports.

Nope. I genuinely hope they walk the league*

*But only as they are the Championship leg of my season acca...

(If Chelsea, Blackburn or Tranmere ruin it anyway, then I don't care)

Just remember though that they're a really down to earth club and they really play a role in their uniquely impoverished community... Sadly I fear Monk is quite a good appointment, but it's not going to be an easy league to get out of. Gibson is a bit of a tool for saying they want to 'smash the league', pretty much all of their opponents will be aware of this comment when facing them on the pitch.

Yep. Agree.

The Ben Gibson thing is great too.

Imagine if Tony B had a son or nephew who grew up good enough to play for the Albion first team? It would be superb.

If they do smash it, then I PRAY he is interviewed by Richard Keys
