You will definitely need a passport - British immigration won't let you in or out without one. No checks once you're driving on the other side but they check passports at the station in Brussels.eastlondonseagull said:Eurostar are doing returns to Brussels for £59, so maybe another option would be to do that then sort the rest out when your in Europe. Or hire a car for the Brussels - Gelsenkirchen bit.
I've still not got a passport sorted - is it true you can travel through Europe with just a driving licence? Or do you need your passport?

Brussels-Gelsenkirchen is a doddle by train, via Cologne. Actually, Cologne's probably a much more fun place than Gelsenkirchen, I've not been but I've heard it's a bit dull.

You must have had to flap hard.
