For away fans, is there no land north of the city (which would be good enough for almost all opponents) that could be used for Park and Ride just as Southampton do for St Marys? Seems to work well there and the car park is a considerable distance from the ground.. 20 minutes or so.

Perhaps there's some land in Hustpierpoint (sic)?

Mill Road and Brighton University (Mithras House & Cockcroft Building) will be used as Park & Ride sites. Both are accessible to cars coming from the north of Brighton. But Mill Road already fills up with games at Withdean attracting only 7,000 or so spectators.

That's not what the Club's survey of season ticket purchasers found.

30 per cent of Albion supporters - suggesting about 6,000 people in total - put train down as their first choice of travel method. Substantially more than half of those will be coming from the Brighton end.

What was the Withdean train % ?

My approval ain't worth a JOT! See ... I've had to alter my original post, to correct the schoolboy error I made. The Brighton to Tunbridge Wells journey leaves Churchill Square at 5.15 pm.

If you want to catch it post match, you can walk to Coldean Lane.

Not a bad idea Lord B, as it reaches Coldean Lane at about 5.33pm it will leave just enough time for a post match pint...........

It's a rough estimate, for say millwall and palace.

I keep seeing this figure of 2,250 used for the away end too for some reason. It's 2,600 people.

2,250 (ie 10% of capacity) is the number of away fans quoted throughout the transport related information submitted with the stadium planning application and crawls out of the woodwork every time this info is referred to.

I wonder if any of the P&R's (Race Hill included) are going to be accessible for away fans?

the road outside cockroft and mithras house is busy at the best of times ,it isn't going to get any easier on match day

It varies ... but the 3-coach Class 313 trains that run to Falmer were built with 232 seats per train. With standing passengers, they can probably carry about 120 - 150 passengers per carriage.

Thanks LB ... So the back of the fag packet calculation suggests that you would need to cater for 4,500 people coming from Brighton (that is is 75% of the total number of people who said in the survey they would travel to the ground by train, 6,000.)

At a maximum of 150 people per carriage = 30 carriages.

To the layman this seems achievable? I think the big (and in my view incorrect) assumption here is that the initial number is massively underestimated.

I'm not even going to think about the post game demand ...

I think I'll stick with my plans to cycle there, at least until things settle down.

Again, you're assuming the trains will be empty. I can see a particular problem after games for people travelling east as the trains will already be pretty much full of people who've spent the day shopping in Brighton; each train will only have room for a couple of hundred people at the most.

You're also assuming that these trains are empty. From memory, and LB probably has this at his fingertips, info included in the original Stadium Planning Application shows that the Lewes-Brighton service is already well used (in both directions and not just by Univ students) - 50%+ on some trains.
Hopefully, the club will publish info on available train capacity with the transport plan.

Yep ... You're both right. I had completely forgotten about Joe Public ... We're even more screwed than I thought :glare:

I was thinking of land well outside of Brighton to avoid some away fans needing to come into town at all. As long as it's close to the A23 it's not really going to be a problem if there is a fleet of buses to finish the journey.

If 6000 people responding to the survey said the train would be their method of getting to the stadium, then 4500 is a big underestimate bearing in mind that the survey did not take into account away suppoters intentions. To think that that group of people will all travel by coach brings two words to mind ....head, sand. As well as visiting a new stadium, a weekend in Brighton will be an attractive reason for many away supporters to come by car or train. I can see well in excess of 6000 people travelling by train and if each train caters for 450 thats over 15 empty trains worth at say 5 minute intervals so the last rail passengers could be waiting over 60 minutes to get away.

It's all just idle conjecture on my part, really ... Hopefully the reality will be a lot better than some of these predictions.
