Apparently they've got to find a spare train to shunt the broken down train back to the yard. That's going to hold up the whole network for some time.

I was going to meet my missus today, but there are no trains running from Eastbourne to Brighton. And there are no buses running into Brighton from where I live. :(

My mum was coming over to Worthing from Lewes to look after my nipper while I work from home but having checked the National Rail website and seen the situation with trains through Lewes and beyond we had to cancel it.

Services seemed to be changing minute by minute. At first the trains had "possible disruption" and then they changed to cancelled or part of journey cancelled.

I had planned to go to the office this morning. Got to Brighton station about 6ish, first Victoria train was at 0630. When I asked a chap what the service was like he said "It might make it". I came home.

Suprisingly, and perhaps a little disappointingly, i managed to make it into London today without too much trouble. Its usually a 1hr35min journey door to door and i did it in just under 3 hours...

Already worried about getting home though; reckon it'll be carnage at Victoria tonight.

Horsham
I turned up at Horsham station this morning - it was packed with trains but I was told none of them would make it to Crawley - and even if they did I wouldn't get beyond East Croydon! Now I read people have got the train in - it's chaos.
And another thing: the platform was still covered in 3 inches of snow? Clearly the staff had bugger all to do yesterday because there were no trains - couldn't they have cleared the snow off the platform????

through south london theres 8-10 inches on the tracks that havent been cleared - so the live rail is under the snow. im pretty sure thats a bad thing. they dont have the equipment to clear all the lines, which to be fair is hardly a surprise when its something they only need to do once every 20 years. what people have to remember is other countries have such weather every year.

thing that pissed me off today was that they still insisted on us all queing to get through the barriers at Victoria, they seem incapable of deciding to just let large crowds through unlike just about every other station i've been.

Came back through Victoria this morning to Brighton. Hour wait at the station and the train took nearly two hours so not too bad. I was just about to give up and go back to bed when a train decided to show. Bit annoyed really as there's no point being here and my work announced that nobody would be penalised for not coming in if they deemed it unsafe.

Ridiculous.

No idea about the technicalities, but couldn't the second-week-in-November leaves on the line scraper-uppers double up as snow-scrapers?

If we had a 24-hour railway this would solve the problem wouldn't it? No time for the snow to settle on the rails before the next train's through.

Just an idea, like.
