Book early, pay the lowest price. Simple as.

I don't quite get this - have trains become planes recently? Its even starting to affect long distance ones here, although theres usually only two price bands, a cheap online advance one and a higher one for pay on the day/pay shortly before hand online.

Long distance bus fares don't vary randomly and neither do train fares in other parts of Europe I've been to.

travel with 3 other friends and you get good group discounts

such as Torquay on saturday was £75 return or if for of you went with 3 other friends it was 4 for 2, meaning 4 people travelled for £150 - which is half the price of what you would have paid in the 1st place :D

Why go if you have to miss the 2nd half? It's just like going to the movies and deciding not to watch the end ???

Don't you post similar for every evening game we have? Have you not yet figured out that unless the game is very local, the train is not the ideal way of getting to an evening fixture?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he hasn't actually made it to any of these games anyway?

Indeed, and my point exactly, because on the day of the game itself he'll post moaning about the price of the train, and then work out he can't actually get there (wherever it may be) and back home again.

I guess a career in project manager will never happen as you need to plan these things in advance if you want a cheaper ticket.
