Just saw this bizarre thing on Wiki thought I would share it .....On 27 November 1942, a train came under attack by two Focke-Wulf 190s. The train, hauled by Southern Railway D3 number 2365 which was just departing from Lydd Town railway station, had its boiler hit. The resulting jet of high pressure steam from the engine hit the plane, causing it to crash-land nearby; the pilot was found dead, but no railway staff or passengers were injured. The moral is don't Focke with Southern Rail!!

Flying too close to the ground can be hazardous.

Sounds like the first Focke hit the bulls eye and the second one copped the flack so was Focked, as it were ....

Thus becoming my second favourite Romney Marsh train story from the war.

My favourite is the German aircraft which crashed after seeing the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch railway armoured train (which is 15 inch gauge, around 1/3 scale) and assumed he was a lot higher than he was, a thought which doubtless stuck with him right to the point he hit the deck.

Ha, fantastic

I think the most bizarre part of the story is that a Southern Railway train was actually leaving the station.

Crashing aside, I do like the Focke Wulf 190
