Tottenham spend £9 million....on a right back

Along with Newcastle, the basketcase of the premiership..:lol::lol:

Spurs complete signing of Hutton
Tottenham have completed the protracted transfer of defender Alan Hutton from Scottish club Rangers.
The 23-year-old Scotland right-back, who has six caps, has joined for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m.

"We are delighted to announce we have reached agreement with Glasgow Rangers for the transfer of Alan Hutton," said a statement on Tottenham's website.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos has also signed centre-back Jonathan Woodgate in the transfer window to bolster his defence.

The White Hart Lane club and Rangers had agreed a fee for Hutton at the start of the transfer window but the player turned down the chance of a switch to Spurs.

Hutton signed a new five-year deal with the Ibrox side last July and any potential move to the north London club looked over after the player rejected a second bid.

But Spurs maintained their interest in him and, after upping the terms on offer, have managed to lure him away from Ibrox.

Hutton was also linked with a move to Manchester United, but could now make his debut against the Premier League champions when Spurs host the Old Trafford side on Saturday.

"The last 12 months have been fantastic for me personally and I have received great support from the Rangers fans," Hutton told the Rangers website.

"That meant a lot and helped give me the confidence to take the next step in my career.

"I wish Rangers every success for the season and in the future and, although I'm sad to leave, there is no doubt my transfer is good not just for me but for the Rangers."

Rangers boss Walter Smith had earlier said he was sorry to see Hutton leave the club, adding: "The clubs agreed a fee a couple of weeks ago and it was up to Alan to decide what he wanted to do.

"He took his time as he has told me that he was enjoying his football here and he wasn't in too much of a rush to go anywhere.

"But as the weeks have gone on he has decided it was the right time for him and we wish him well in that respect.

"Throughout the club there is disappointment that he's leaving, but clearly it was an offer we couldn't turn down."

Wasn't Micah Richards rated at £15 million last season? and Woodgate who's fantastic but insanely injury prone £7m? looks a decent deal

Good player, and Spurs desperately needed to sort their defence out.

Hutton King Woodgate Bale

That is a quality back line, and should serve them very well.

He's pretty good, not worth that though. Chimbonda is better, but has an attitude.

So they've sign a centre half who is a crock for £8m or thereabouts and a player who never wanted to leave Glasgow but was eased out by Rangers wanting £9m to cut their overdraft. May not be the best back four, what with King who can't play too often because he legs hurt and Chimbonda who is money grabbing little fcuk. Didn't he tell Wigan to piss off on the final whistle of the last game of the season so he could double his wage packet.

Its a lot yes, but if Utd or Arsenal spent that sort of money on a young promising player no one would really comment.

*see's picture of Bent and sighs*

If Ferguson bought him they would be banging on about what a great eye for a player he has, just look at Schmeichel, Ronaldo etc... That etc includes Cruyff, Djemba Djemba, Poborsky, Taibi.....

If Wenger bought him we wouldn't hear the last of what a great prospect he is. Walcott anyone?

And who was Hutton up against in his last two matches the best scottish football can offer I think not, a few good games for Scotland when they were on a roll and week in week out taking on players who would struggle to get into a top league one side let alone championship/premiership does not a 9m player make still time will tell, I like him and I hope he does well, but............

Oh and Murray delaying the transfer to deny Smith the chance to spend the dosh is a stroke of genuis (if your a celtic fan).
