I also don't believe that Tory voters are nasty, poor-hating, selfish racists (add as many tired old cliches as required). Around 2 in every 5 voters went for Tory last time round. As such, Tory voters are all around me, and you for that matter - dropping off their kids at school, in the same queue at the supermarket and cheering an Albion goal at the Amex. They will want the same as you - an education system that prepares our children to lead well-rounded adult lives, a health system that looks after us all and a welfare state that looks after those in need. They just believe there is a different way of achieving that than you possibly do.

They are all around us, I've seen them...somehow we must convince a disbelieving world, that the nightmare has already begun...

Similarly, I can't understand people who place their X in the same box, election after election. I have voted Tory, but I couldn't vote for the Conservative Party as it is today, led by May. I've voted Labour, but I could not do anything that may help Corbyn and McDonnell get into power.

I’m in a similar quandary as I can’t stand May and loath Corbyn and his cronies. I feel totally unrepresented, but at the end of the day my vote won’t count for much as I’m in Surrey Hills with Michael Gove as my MP, and there’s no way that he will not get voted in at the next election.

That is a long list of things that you have put down there MR(not that I agree with all your points!) and it makes out that this country is an absolute basket case, which I do not accept.

There will always be a demand for more money from all areas of society and there will never be enough dosh to keep everyone satisfied unless taxes were to rise beyond a level that would be unacceptable to most individuals in a country such as ours. Socialist utopias do not exist.

Of course there are problems in the country, but it is far too simplistic to always say, 'let's throw some more money at the problem'. Just one example, ,the NHS and social care provision require forward planning and a massive overhaul. This includes the future funding of the NHS which should be discussed in a non partisan manner by the best brains in the country and a framework set out as to how the country will look after its sick and elderly in the future. Regrettably, this is a nettle that no-one of any political shade has had the balls to grasp. Just the mention of funding for the NHS leads to hysterical shouts of sacrilege.

Those who vote Tory, just have a different opinion to you; that doesn't make them wilfully ignorant, too stubborn or plain spiteful. That appears to me to be an intemperate statement from a teacher!

Finally , has it occurred to you that whilst Corbyn, McDonnell, Abbott etc. and Momentum are bossing the Labour party and closing down dissenting voices from moderate Labour MP's, us moderate Tory voters are far less likely to vote Labour...........that is nothing to do with ignorance, stubborness or spite, it is common sense. Add in Len McCluskey, Seamus Milne, Andrew Murray and Owen Jones; wow, what a shower!

You say it’s an impertinent statement, yet it your very first statement you said you don’t accept it (it being the lost of consequences from Tory policy). So already you’ve demonstrated the wilful ignorance I previously mentioned. This isn’t about opinion. It’s about policies and what those policies are doing to the most vulnerable in society. Tory voters need to understand the consequences of those policies instead of just pretending they aren’t happening because it’s inconvenient. But if, in your opinion, rising child poverty is ok if it means Corbyn (and his ‘shower’) aren’t near Downing Street then that says a lot more about you than it does about me.

I think we saw in 2017 that although some seats are very safe, many that would have been considered safe changed hands whilst others got far closer than anyone could have envisioned. I'm not so sure, and no one would have suggested that just a few years back,

I genuinely don't think any vote is wasted. As I say: think of it as a long game. Labour will put far more focus on the constituency next time, whereas previously it would have received little attention. If everyone who was inclined to vote Labour last time considered it a wasted vote and voted elsewhere or didn't bother voting at all, then that wouldn't have happened.

It's not always about the party either, some people vote because they like the MP who does sterling work in the constituency and is a decent person.
An MP that goes against the party line for the sake of his constituents and common sense often hold their seat.
More MPs should realise this.

There’s a name I’d blocked out of my mind- when I was working as a benefits advisor (thankless task under this government) I would work with all the local MPs. Obviously Caroline Lucas was fantastic and then it’s a downward curve until you get to Tim Loughton right at the bottom of the pile- what an arrogant, disinterested and rude man he is and his staff aren’t much better. I’d heard about him being a “great constituency MP” before but having dealt with him in a professional capacity that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Sorry to rant- I’d just locked my burning rage for him inside a box in my brain and you’ve just unleashed the kraken

We're in central Worthing but our council ward (Heene) returned a Lab councillor for the first time I can remember. There's something going on in this part of Sussex that should really worry the Tories as the whole coast from here to Hastings could become a mix of red or yellow (or green).

The demographics in that area changing? I know a lot of young people are moving out of Brighton & Hove and to places like Worthing and Shoreham due to cost

Funnily enough Caroline Lucas visited a place near my work. Rather than fantastic, she was a lot closer to arrogant, disinterested and rude. Something along the lines of 'how long do I have to stay here' and 'when can we leave?'.

Teacher, teacher, I said INTEMPERATE not IMPERTINENT.
Quite frankly, I expect better from you than the reply you gave to my post, but hey ho, you just display an intolerance towards any opinion that does not entirely accord with your own. Not a good recommendation for one tasked with teaching the young, I would suggest, but very typical of the strident left these days.
By the way, I said I didn't agree with all your points, but I did say I do not accept that this country is a basket case.
