At this rate there will only be about 50 of them to do any sniping.Scorched earth policy so the next government will look bad. The Tories can then snipe from the opposition benches for 5 years.
i'm surprised the Resolution Foundation knows the budget ahead of time. that said, what do we want then: spending cuts, more taxes increases, more borrowing?Britain’s stretched public services will buckle under the weight of the spending cuts being planned for after the election, economists have warned, as Jeremy Hunt prepares for another round of tax reductions in next week’s budget.
Experts say the level of public sector spending pencilled in for the next parliament would mean cuts equivalent to those undertaken by David Cameron’s government from 2010 to 2015. Some have warned the next government will not be able to implement them, and will be forced either to raise taxes or borrow more to fund emergency spending.

Where did he mention Resolution Foundation?i'm surprised the Resolution Foundation knows the budget ahead of time. that said, what do we want then: spending cuts, more taxes increases, more borrowing?
the Guardian article copied has that as their source.Where did he mention Resolution Foundation?
that would be great, which option is the best to get that?Basic economic competence from the people in charge of Britain's economy
Last week the Resolution Foundation calculated such a move would mean taking a fifth out of budgets for certain departments across the parliament, sparking concern among economists, trade unions and even some Conservatives.the Guardian article copied has that as their source.
The Resolution Foundation (and others) are basing their calculations on elements that are already in the public domain. Those may or may not be changed in the next budget; but those elements were crucial in how Hunt justified handouts in his last fiscal statement, so no doubt those elements will remain in place so he can justify big pre-Election handouts in an attempt to win votes.i'm surprised the Resolution Foundation knows the budget ahead of time. that said, what do we want then: spending cuts, more taxes increases, more borrowing?
Yes, you can almost write the headlines for about two years time.. " Tory tax cuts squandered by Labour overspends "Scorched earth policy so the next government will look bad. The Tories can then snipe from the opposition benches for 5 years.
a trap that could be avoided, call out the cuts, explain how spending needs increasing and how it'll be funded. The Resolution Foundation (and others) are basing their calculations on elements that are already in the public domain. For the Tories, they'll be looking at it as a win-win: if it works, they win a GE everyone expects them to lose (although the Tories then lose, as the trap they're laying for Labour will then spring on them). If it doesn't work, then they know they've saddled Labour with a budgetary position that will force Labour to reverse the tax cuts and allow the Tories to then go on a "see! we told you!" crusade attacking Labour for increasing taxes.
This is good no?Laying the groundwork early for them to say their loss in the 2024 GE was rigged...
Criminals and “malign actors” working on behalf of malicious states could use AI-generated “deepfakes” to hijack the general election, the home secretary has said.

Tories see Muslims as ‘fair game’ says Baroness Warsi
Baroness Warsi said the Tories’ response to comments by Lee Anderson showed that “anti-Muslim racism is tolerated” by the party.
She criticised as “mealy mouthed” deputy prime minister Oliver Dowden’s defence of the party’s handling of the incident.

It's actually refreshing to see that somewhere behind this ruling cabal, there are actually a few sensible conservatives, even if they are all from another generation of conservatism completely

Definitely.This is good no?
I fail to see any downside to trying to clean up AI use.
Plenty to dig out the government on, getting this sorted isn't one
To be honest, we have the previous x amount of years being told the election here, USA and Brexit was fiddled by Russians.Definitely.
Call me cynical but there's no universe in which they don't try and claim some sort of AI influence over a GE they just lost.
But as you say - it's a dangerous emerging technology that needs controls
It would be lovely to think there was someone else to blame and it wasn't just our own blatant stupidity, but I'm not convincedTo be honest, we have the previous x amount of years being told the election here, USA and Brexit was fiddled by Russians.
Just a new thing to blame for a defeat
As I suspect you're well aware, she's been banging this particular drum for about a decade now. Because Islamophobia in the Conservative Party, and in wider UK society is alive and well. And yet we hear so little about it. It's hiding in plain sight, while all the noise is generated elsewhere.Just watched Baroness Warsi on the news in 'Tory peer speaks sense again shocker'
