I think that's a big part of our current problem. Why is one of our strikers in the team because he defends well??

We all agree, I believe, that our back four is one of the best in the division and we have two or three good defensive midfielders, so why do we also need to rely on the defensive qualities of a striker?

If our strikers were given clear instructions that their roles were to score goals, and if we left the defending to our defenders, maybe, just maybe, the team would be able to entertain the fans by putting the ball in the net more than once in a game.

So true ... I'm sure the critics will say the game is more technical than that but a lot of the good sides I've seen in this league tend not to over complicate. Like you, I'd rather hear our strikers were better at scoring goals than defending them

This goes back to the 4141 V 442 debate - whilst I think that TA is more direct and likes to run at people, I would prefer us to play 442, with Barnes and CMS up front with one winger who could be replaced by another when fatigue sets in. This leaves three central players, which shoud be enough to compete in midfield. It will be interesting when Bridcutt gets suspended, but I guess he will play another defensive midfielder in his place, although one who may be more comfortable going forward.

This sort of talk is unacceptable. You can't go around telling uncomfortable truths, using common sense and reasoned arguments. Seriously, wouldn't it be nice for the midfield players to look up and see wingers and attackers running into space for a defence splitting pass instead of passing to someone facing them who has no choice but to pass it straight back again.

I`m afraid you couldn`t be more wrong. Klinsmann, Lineker, Shearer and even Owen in his prime, they certainly didn`t build their reputations by the goals they scored. It was because of their magnificent defending capabilities. Honestly, don`t you people know anything about football!

GP sees them all in training, day in day out, and I would think if he saw some potential for someone to score A goal, he'd pop them in the starting line-up pronto. I would deduce from this that he hasn't seen any potential from any of the DV squad

It is a bit pathetic, has to be said. Putting him in the 'Development Squad' at the age of 21 is surely the modern day Albion equivalent of labelling him 'one for the future'. Which is manager-speak for 'OK, I bought a dud, hey, win some lose some, we'll quietly tuck him away out of sight and get rid when we think least people will notice'. Sorry, but that's how it is.

You'd actually trust Gus to spot a decent striker? His record on signing/spotting attacking players is not very good.
