So what did these prick scousers look like? Now I'm sure there were more than a couple of the nasty types knocking about, but I had a couple on the train down to Brighton the day before doing a good bit of general menacing. Both in grey trackies, starting up the 'friendly'/ramp-up to knocking you out chatter on me for a bit before I made my excuses and f***ed off down the train. Just wondering, like, lad.

The seaside.
The pissed Scouser sounds a bit like "snake man". A legendary figure around Kemptown. He turns up at pubs (before he got banned from them all) pissed out of his head with a snake wrapped round his neck. When they refuse to serve him, he complains in a high pitched voice that they are prejudiced against snakes and points to any people in the pub with dogs saying "you served them". When it's pointed out that he's not being served 'cause he's drunk and the snake is welcome to stay, but not him, he resorts to complaining that it is because he's white/male/Liverpudlian/etc that he's not being served, and refuses to leave. Pubs inevitably have to phone the police on him, and when the coppers arrive, without even asking for a description of the bloke, the first thing they ask is "which snake has he got today". Apparently one is a lot bigger/scarier than the other. He's quite a legend is Scouse Snake Man. That may well be the same guy who was (albeit snakeless) in the Star.

TB was in there after the game on Tuesday - no one spilt a pint on him this time though.

What's the story with the Bell now....is it still supporter friendly?...rumours of it being an allocated away fan venue, rumours of mass walk outs by regulars.....anything?

Matthew Harding wasn't a chairman (was he?), but a director and a generous one at that. Wasn't Ken Bates the main man at the time?

Bates was Chairman and Matt was Vice Chairman. They hated each other come the end. I was with Matt and his mates/hangers-on a couple of times in the boozer before Chelsea games (can't remember the name of the place on the Kings Road - he'd invited me along as we had professional connections). Didn't enjoy it much to be honest - bit of a champagne socialist and surrounded by some fairly unpleasant people on match days (maybe prejudice on my part as I can't really stand Chelsea however :D). Big supporter of Hassocks FC (they still have an annual match for a trophy in his name vs Cuckfield at Youth level)

Did he not pay for Hassocks floodlights at the new ground ?

He did....from The Hassocks website (Pat plays for Burgess Hill now incidentally) :

To take their place in Division One of the Sussex County League for the first time, quality floodlights had to be provided and they came through fundraising and a generous donation from Chelsea vice-chairman Matthew Harding who lived locally and whose sons Pat and Joel and daughter Katie would all go onto represent the club.

The floodlights were officially opened when a Chelsea XI featuring Graham Rix and Liam Brady made the journey to the Beacon, one season later they made their debut in the FA Vase and then a year on in the FA Cup with a remarkable run to the third qualifying round coming in 2001-2002 which was finally ended by Lewes en route to meeting Stoke City in the first round proper.
