Yes it is, that happens when a large cohort stays home or the vote gets split or both. Nice try.

Not sure I can recall anyone getting such a debagging and defenestration on NSC, entirely down to his own folly, er, ever. Crikey.

Eh?
Agree 100%, the number of members online represents about 1% of a Saturday gate.

Having a membership posting that skews left in itself isn't to much of a problem(although county demographics would skew right). Its just that this cohort appear to be labour party members and activists and a bunch of horrible bastards backed up by an imbecile with a mod panel.
But you said 'county demographics would skew right'. On the current evidence that simply isn't true.

How do you know the 'stay at homes' would have voted right?

Er, because that is why the Tories lost a ton of seats? A fall in tory votes, a rise in Reform and Labour falling a bit is what gave Labour a massive majority.

Why is this difficult to grasp? Its common knowledge.

We're talking about Sussex. The County.

Here are the Sussex figures. https://hellorayo.co.uk/greatest-hits/sussex/news/election-2024-full-results-for-sussex/

Conservative: 122,980
Reform: 57,954
RIGHT - 180,934

Labour: 125,513
Lib Dem: 93,502
Green: 57,810
LEFT - 276,825

Independent: 13,630

County demographics in 2024 do not skew right. Unless you have actual evidence that the vast majority of those that did not vote would have voted right.

He won't agree that it's possible to prove a point with facts. Just wait.....

Right voters stay home, vote tactically etc. no room for independents in you dichotomy.

Do you have actual proof or evidence that right voters stayed at home more than left voters? If not - it's just supposition on your part.

The vote tactically argument doesn't stack up when you look at the actual numbers does it. Nor does the independents argument - even if you added them all to the right count it gets nowhere near (but not all the independents were right - at least 3,000 voted for the Workers Party).

I read tons of literature on this phenomenon, quick search brought up this. weak but indicative.

The turnout for by elections is always poor and cannot be compared to a general election.

My take on why the Tories lost the election so badly is, regardless of your viewpoint on
their approach to Covid, Brexit or Boris and others, the Tories have ALWAYS relied on the premise that the economy and financial stability are safe in their hands. Once Liz Truss undermined that premise in her fiscal event, that Ace up their sleeve had gone.
