We lost = Referee was shit
Won won (Swindon) = It was all about how good we were.

The referee was rubbish at Swindon, but we scored 2 good goals and he could nothing about them. Using the referee as an excuse is poor and lazy. We're lacking a cutting edge in attack.

True, we do need to improve. Not going to deny that. However the ref did cost us today because he didn't give decisions that would have massivly improved our chances.

Th ref spoke to the lino about the Mellor incident and that must have been the only decision he got right. It was a yellow as he only pushed El Abd in the chest which is what he indicated had it been in the face he would have walked. The Sedgewick tackle on Painter was too far away for any of us to give a true assesment but their manager said that the ref got that right as he won the ball. It is bad when even the manager cant see that it doesnt matter that he won the ball the question was how he won the ball, which was or appearred to be a dangerous tackle and studs up, so a red should have been shown .

From my view, that looked to be one of the worst tackles i've ever seen on Painter - two footed and high.

Disgraceful refereeing.

Obviously the referee wasn't brilliant today, but I'd still rather look at our own shortfalls than blaming it on him. Sheebo made a good point, we were without Sparrow and he's clearly going to be very important to our attack, but we can't be relying on him completely. We're missing a linkman type striker in my opinion.

Did you actually go to the game?

Against 10 (maybe 9) men, and with a penalty in our favour, it's a different game.

Ref bottled it big time and we paid the price.

Kebab was shoved by Fatty Mellor and crumpled like he had been bitch slapped , a yellow not a red card. Sedgewick went into a 50/50 with a two footed lunge which was a certain red but the ref bottled it. 2 good penalty shouts , one of which was nailed on.

Exactly this.

Even the linesman joined in, and in giving a goalkick towards the end when Barnes quite clearly had kept the ball in just summed it all up in the end.

No, unfortunately, I didn't. So obviously my view on the game is going to be different from those who went there, and maybe I'll feel differently when I actually see what was so bad about his performance.

So what's the point on passing comment on todays ref then ?

It's like the numpties that ring into the phone in and start with - " I wasn't at the game today.............BUT........."

The tackle on Painter was disgusting, could easily have broken something. Can't believe some morons are saying jumping in with two feet shin height is acceptable if you get a touch on the ball. I was hoping someone would end Sedgewick after that or someone would go in for a horrendous tackle (I think Kish tried to ), as it seemed the max you could get was a yellow.

One thing that annoyed me was when Glenn was chasing their defender and he took a dive, right under the lino's feet. Lino had clearly never played football/has any understanding. Blatantly obvious that the Weds player was looking for it, and then he doesn't bother giving the pen on Murray in a similar incident.

I agree that the ref was a total bottler and I'm afraid I said a few naughty words about him. But I was also disappointed in Adam El Abd's reaction, rolling about like a big fanny trying to get a fellow pro sent off. He was only pushed (quite hard) in the chest and wasn't injured.

If that was too far away for us to give a true assessment, then I suggest you get new glasses. It was in the half of the pitch closest to us, not even near the halfway line. Winning the ball doesn't make a tackle any less dangerous.

Lino had clearly never played football/has any understanding.

This argument holds no water with me.

The number of players and managers, past and present, who have no understanding of the laws of the game (just look at the comments about getting the ball from Wednesday's manager) show "experience/understanding of the game" does not mean you're going to get things right.

I really can't believe anyone would stick up for the referee as he was shocking. Mellor's shove on El Abd should have been a red card but having got that wrong how he could allow Sedgwick to stay on the pitch for that X-rated challenge on Painter is beyond me. I was so relieved when Painter got up and was okay and then a lot of their moronic fans were booing him.

As for the two penalties, Bennett's looked an absolutely clear penalty whereas Murray's I thought he may not have had the ball and couldn't quite get in front of the man. Sadly though we have got to accept that most referees at this level are poor and you are never going to get consistent decision making.

We can't have rubbish refs every game, the entire ref world seems to be against us. We obviously have a reputation, derserved or not, and they seem happy to red us and give few decisions for us. We have to live with it and get results until this changes.

The reputation you refer to is probably a lot to do with Gus slagging off refs every week. Also , do you not agree that by slagging refs off publicly, much of the time it tends to take the pressure off the players responsibilities, rightly or wrongly?
