it was Lee Barnard and was probably more than 3 yards offside when the ball was played. Barnard deliberately stood 5 - 10 yards behind the defenders (as T Henry used to do) then ran back to challenge for the ball as it dropped. This happened twice.

I think that you are wrong. Lee Barnard was an example of how to play the offside correctly. He always stood about 5 yds offside thus attracting the attention of the defenders then moved on side at the last moment and didnt attempt to play the ball until it had been played by somebody else thus making him onside. As soon as another player plays the ball witha kick or header he is then onside and able to get the 2nd ball when it drops.

If only he had agreed to join us when we tried to get him on loan while at Spurs.

IMHO the most intelligent striker in Div 1.

i disagree. He can play the ball before another player touches it because you cannot be offside from a goal kick, however you are correct when ball is in open play.

I thought the ref had a great game, kept his cards in his pocket, controlled the game and really let it flow. A couple of the advantage calls really helped the side with the ball.

8/10

What a difference a decent ref makes. Obviously im gutted that we lost but it was possibly the most enertaining game at withdean for a while. Both sides were really going for it & the ref let players tackle.

Well done that man

I was very impressed with him. I especially liked the way he dismissed the need for physios to deal with sissy injuries. They either had to get up themselves or make their way off the pitch for treatment. In no time, that seemed to stop players hitting the deck too much, even Dickinson was staying on his feet.

I also like the fact that there wasn't an automatic foul given everytime a forward jumped with a defender, especially in the box.

Excellent work sir, we'll have you down here again please.
