26 years after the final episode the Beeb are bringing back To The Manor Born for a one-off special this Christmas.

Interesting. Will this be the biggest thing on TV this Christmas? How many people here even remember To The Manor Born?

Is that the Penelope Keith thing? Or the Hyacinth Bucket thing?

Not that either is remotely funny, mind.

And Christmas Specials NEVER are. Well, apart from maybe the Fast Show one that time. That was WELL scorchio!

I don't remember it from when it was originally aired, but I've watched the odd episode on UK Gold and the like due to the fact that I quite like a lot of 'classic' comedy (Two Ronnies, Are You Being Served, Dad's Army, Allo Allo etc...) and thought I'd give it a try.

I generally found it to be mildly amusing, and thus the Xmas special is something I'd watch if I've nothing better to do at the time it's on, but not something I'd make specific space in my Xmas diary to watch.

Big here on Public Television in the late '80's and early 90's. Never achieved cult status like Are You Being Served?, but ran for years and years.

Doctor Who? Surley Kylie should draw in a few extra viewers aswell, also the story being about the Titanic might get a few others intrigued.

With To the manor born, it does depend on when they show it. But i can say that i won't be going out of my way to watch it.

To the Manor Born is classic comedy. Hope they don't bring it up to date and have Ned as some drunken tramp and Audrey as the madam in a brothel!!

Humour is very subjective and I don't find any of the 'modern' comedy funny at all. I enjoyed To the Manor Born but I'm not sure I want to see it after all this time. It came to a natural conclusion at the end of the series.

Agree with that for the reasons mentioned in my post. It won't remain timeless if they do it now.

I suspect Ned will be long gone and there will be a group of eastern europeans living in the shed and working the land for poverty wages. Brabinger will also have popped his clogs but not before finally coming out of the closet.

Did the 2 characters ever marry in the end? If not, you can almost guarantee that's what will happen in this new one so Audry becomes Lady of The Manor again.

They married at the end of the 'last' episode.

Much like OFAH when they finally became millionaires by selling that watch, a big part of me thinks it should be left there because that series has reached it's natural conclusion by having the main character achieve their 'goal' in the series.

The subsequent 'specials' of OFAH have been almost universally shite (certainly not as good as the series used to be), and I suspect this may well end up being seen as an un-necessary add-on eventually.

Yes, saw this and it was woeful, typical rubbish from the beeb where a character has a show created around them because they were once in a good comedy. This was done on the back of Margo from the Good Life and it was no where near as funny.

I expect this to be crap like most of our xmas TV fair - but I dont care as I will be drunk by the time this comes on.:drink:
