Southgate 100%! Has to be tactical; none of the players on the pitch last night play that way tactically for their clubs
I'll give you one.
Pickford. HOOF.

Disagree. That's far too defeatist an attitude for me. And if we move on too quickly with a 'nothing to see' mentality, lessons will never be learned. We were only ever going to beat them on pens, Southgate or not….
Did well to get to the final, onwards …

Bellingham looked like he wanted to trf to another nationality... I wouldn't blame him for being surrounded by also rans in the starting line up... Rice behind him, Kane in front of him....I thought some of the players clearly looked pissed off with the tactics again last night, just like during the group games. None of those players play on the back foot for their clubs, so its obvious why, too. Why on earth did we go back to 4 at the back!? At least we looked half decent with the diamond midfield.

If England's players don't have a hope of winning a one-off game in 2 hours of football before pens, that's on the manager and how they play under him.
The momentum had switched to England after Palmer's goal. "In Berlin, the wind of change is with England" was the line of commentary.
But England sat back again and surrendered the initiative again.
The moment was lost again.
Another trophy lost again.
Yes, it's generally a package of failure, born out of a stagnant mind set from a very defensive coach... we know very well that these players ordinarily play a different game at their clubs... so it does largely fall on the tactical line fed from the man at the top. This is what I mean when players have to take responsibility. I’m not convinced Southgate told Kane to be a statue and Rice to not bother looking forward. Not directly or explicitly anyway…maybe it’s his dull negative demeanor and vibes which makes players play like this.
Appreciate players have to take responsibility but how we play is down to manager. Just look at Brighton under 3 managers in PL. All about what licence you give players. Finaly under DeZerbi he gave all players licence to go forward and made them believe they could beat anybody. Southgate very much like Moyes where defence comes first. Every chance if Southgate managed City or Arsenal last season they may have done as well but would have scored a lot less goalsBack to bad old Southgate England tonight. Negative, overly defensive and no pressing of them at all.
Our riches in attacking midfield have deserved a manager who would play on the front foot and get them forward without fear.Absolutely this. There's no way we should just move on thinking oh well we'd never have beaten them unless on pens anyway. There's no way with this group of players that that should be the case! And it wouldn't be the case if we had a progressive minded manager. If we'd given them a proper game and lost, fair enough. But to play how we did is just so frustrating.
Bellingham and Foden looked completely fed up. Whatever the opposite of tactical masterclass is was provided last night. It was shambolic. Rice dropping back into the centre backs means we were man down in midfield so Kane filled in which meant we had no one high. Kane kept getting in the way of Foden and Jude and just stood there.Bellingham looked like he wanted to trf to another nationality... Did we expect anything different really, Southgate should have walked after the last Euro final, when he failed to change after Italy scored, and threw kids on to take penalties knowing full well himself what that will do to them if unsuccessful which it was....Bellingham and Foden looked completely fed up. Last night was a complete shambles.
Yes, but who?Our riches in attacking midfield have deserved a manager who would play on the front foot and get them forward without fear.
Defensive disjointed football that relies on isolated moments of brilliance will normally only take you so far.
It'll flatter to deceive with 'successful' deep runs in tournaments on the quality of the players alone.
But then you meet a team that passes and plays you off the park and normality is restored.
With all the colours available, Southgate's England have been playing in monochrome.
Time for a tactical artist to bring some bold vivid brushstrokes to England's canvas.
Any idea who that might beI'm sure there are more people than me wondering what England could have looked like yesterday if they had a manager with a masters degree in how to emotionally lead a group
Yeah, right'o who did we buy the Ford Focus from Swiss Tony, the most expensive Ford Focus known to man, let me guess leaded as well.Ford Focus v Rolls Royce.
I bet he doesn't - the suits at the FA love him because he doesn't answer backDid we expect anything different really, Southgate should have walked after the last Euro final, when he failed to change after Italy scored, and threw kids on to take penalties knowing full well himself what that will do to them if unsuccessful which it was....
Idiot, the one shining light is, hopefully he will walk now.
Respectfully, that's a different question. And one for later, but hopefully not too much later.Yes, but who?
I think you're right - we will still be lumbered with him for the World Cup in '26I bet he doesn't - the suits at the FA love him because he doesn't answer back
Jurgen Klopp would be my choice, if he can be persuaded!Yes, but who?
