How he ever convinced anyone he was a Premiership player with his defending buffoonery astounds me.

Because he has all the physical attributes necessary to be a TOP defender, and because when newcastle bought him he was so young, I'm sure they believed they could coach the lapses of concentration out of his game, but it's just never happened.

I think he looks almost exactly like the player he was at ipswich, and as a raw youngster of course he had enough to convince a Premiership club. The problem is that he has simply not improved on the weaknesses in his game.
