Tips for coping with lockdown

It seems I've rattled a few cages which I didn't intend to, I genuinely wanted this to be a thread where people could share tips now we're well into a third lockdown, and like it or not we could be in this one for a while longer yet, on how they have coped. I'll be honest it has been a struggle for me and I tend to think the opposite on what some of here have suggested in preparing for the worst and then anything better than that, if we can open shops and hospitality in late spring and have limited social interactions in small groups it is all a bonus.

I think I will suggest it goes back on topic if anyone has some genuine helpful advice for me or others, or if not I'll ask the mods to close the thread.

The best thing you could do is read the Good News thread here and stop reading the twaddle put out by the media.

It’s like they go out their way to paint a gloomy picture and push people into depression.

It's a good thought. Why not write this thread off as a bad job and start a new one, just about tips for lockdown, and don't make any mention of how long it will last or vaccines or anything else that makes it go off topic. Who knows, it might not work any better than this one, but it might.

Britain could be trapped in lockdowns for years

Professor Boyd told The Times: 'It stands to reason that the more people there are in the population with infections — the prevalence — the more virus that is replicating and the more chance there is of even highly improbable mutations happening.'

He warned even if Britain gets on top of the South African strain, there will be more concerning ones down the line. He added: 'My suspicion is that we will experience a damped oscillation of control-release for a long time to come — perhaps several years.'

Professor Robin Shattock, of Imperial College London, who does not sit on SAGE but is a leader in advanced vaccine development, said it would be 'very advisable' to get cases down even further through lockdown

Several other prominent leading scientists have already come out in support of extending the current shutdown to reduce the risk of the South African stain becoming widespread.

Professor Robin Shattock, of Imperial College London, who does not sit on SAGE but is a leader in advanced vaccine development, told The Times: 'It would be very advisable to try to push the cases as low as possible to reduce the chance of additional variants. This would make sense alongside border restrictions.'

And Professor Mike Tildesley, from Warwick University, who also sits on SAGE, threw his support behind longer restrictions yesterday.

I think Kinky Gerbils said it yesterday - epidemiologists, virologists and members of SAGE (apart from the excellent JVT and CW) should be banned from talking to the press.

They almost always seem to be aiming for a target of 0 cases and 0 deaths, with no consideration for any other factor. It's unrealistic, with each and every lockdown after this one there will be increasing civil disobedience.

Lockdowns end this summer at the latest.

Doomsayers who say otherwise and the media that amplify their voices can do one.

I imagine the large percentage of people see this as the last one.

Yes, I don’t understand why this is happening.

Agree or not with how the Government is handling things (I’m certainly not) having sage outwardly talk down the plans or even worse releasing more Crazy modelling Undermines the gov and is scaring more people - 130k more dead in the summer?

If they feel that strongly they should resign from sage and feel free to chat freely.

A thread on how to better cope with the current lockdown which appears to be lasting into Spring and possibly Summer.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-54779286

Personally I've found trying to speak to old friends and acquaintances/family members I do not keep in touch with. It is reassuring to know you're not the only one who may be struggling through this and good to catch up with people who you may have previously thought you did not have time for.

Getting outside at least once a day for me, natural light is good for both physical and metal well being especially when days are short and sunshine is at a premium. Maybe take a walk you've never taken before, everyone is different.

Oh and one other thing, not missing your weekly "FC xxxxx most famous supporter thread", always a giggle

Absolutely this. These people should be acting in an 'advisory' capacity not shamelessly lobbying for more societal restriction. And the fear porn addicted MSM should stop providing an uncritical platform for howling jeremaiads like Neil Ferguson and Chris Hopson delivering grim prognostications as though they were ineluctable truths.

Once the vaccination programme is rolled out, this ends. Gradually, cautiously, but it ends.
