Actually thought this for some time, but wanted to share - It's theoretically possible to waste infinite amount of time if you keep hitting the ref with the ball, right?

Has this strategy been used as far as anyone knows? ta

No, as although the universe may be infinite, the planet Earth is not.

I'm fairly certain, that long before we had to worry about the destruction of the earth, the ref would get fed up at players constantly kicking the ball at him and tell the captains to sort it out before he has to start booking players for unsporting behaviour. Unless it was a big 6 team doing in which case we are here until the end of time.

Only works if the ball goes to an opposition player (if a player from the same team received the ball after it hits the ref, play continues). So you'd have to hit the ball at the ref when an opposing player is nearby to collect it, and hope the ref doesn't jump/step over the ball, allowing the opposition player to retrieve the ball and charge toward your goal.

Seems a bit too risky to me.

No need for new time wasting routines, not when refs allow substituted players to go on a farewell tour, hugging and shaking hands with all thier teammates, before departing the pitch. As John Brooks did yesterday.

What happened to departing the field at the nearest point?
