Thorne scored five in my first Albion game in 1960 so that'll do for me; my dad reckoned he was pretty good.

Bryan Wade scored four against Newcastle and was never heard of again. But I agree that Thorne is probably worth a place.

I saw Thorne score those five goals that night and it was brilliant, but never saw much of him again. He was no more than a reserve team player who had a great night.
To include him amongst the fifty would be a slight on many better players who have played for this club.
Including players in that team, Eric Gill, Dennis Foreman, Frankie Howard, Dennis Gordon and Glen Wilson

BTW, can someone explain to be the appeal of Reinelt - an ordinary player in an ordinary side. I wouldn't have him in the top 100 players that I've seen, let alone the best ever, yet there's veneration for him purely based on his scoring a run-of-the-mill goal. He seems like a nice bloke but that's no reason to talk about him as an Albion great.

44 Goals for us? His record for us was 36 goals in 76 games over 5 seasons, hardly puts him amongst our top strikers.
Then he moved to Plymouth, so that may be his career total.

No. That's his Albion record according to the Carder and Harris book.

I'm not sure that he's good enough to be one of the greats but that's not too shabby a record.

Do behave NS, I was six years old at the time and the endearing memories of that game (Bristol Rovers) have helped me through many an Albion game since - a bit like the promotion night in 1972 outside your parents' house?

Richard Carpenter is worth consideration.
Also in the mix should be Roy Jennings, Bobby Laverick.
Agree that John Keeley is ahead of Kuipers.
Robbie Reneilt is unfortunately not there.

I think Reinelt is worth including for THAT goal. Ditto Stewart Storer. After all we haven't got many internationals and a lot of the rest are just honest pro's so it makes the list a bit more relevant to our situation.

Chris Cattlin for me is worth including because I heard the impromptu speech he gave in the train coming back from Newcastle in 1979.

Has anyone mentioned Gerry Ryan?
