OK, it’s all going a bit pear-shaped on the pitch at the moment, and the off-pitch stuff is dragging on forever, but how was it ever going to be any other way? There was nobody more gob-smacked than Mark McGhee when we pulled that second leg out of the bag v. Swindon. I swear he was THAT close in his profuse apologies to actually GIVING the tie to Andy King. From then on in, every single thing has been a bonus. A play-off final, a quantum leap to a league where we get to play West Ham, Leeds, Sunderland and all the rest of it, and all with a small squad of (this time around) quick learning grown-ups who’ve given us more one-shot-one-goal muggings of superior opposition than we could ever have had any right to expect.
But it couldn’t last forever. You can only weaken the foundations so far before it starts to drag you down. As Leeds & West Ham have found double-quick. The lselling-on of Danny C. And Darren Currie were massive blows – tho on a club-survival level a massive boost to the tune of half a million quid. Add to that the serial-suspensions, the injuries, the absence through family tragedies, & it seems to me we got absolutely no right to bitch about anything that comes our way. Sure, the manager will be a tactical genius when we dig in for an unlikely 1-0 win, and he’ll blame the match officials when we get zapped by a single goal, but that's how life is. Every other manager at every other club is doing the same thing. Every single set of fans feels robbed somehow.
Off the pitch, I’m SO proud of the way the club is conducting itself over the Falmer Inquiry, having seen the thing play itself out a couple of times. I mean, Dick Knight’s, what? 60? 65? 70? & Martin Perry’s anorak is of a similar age. These people are fighting tooth and nail to ensure the Albion and the city of Brighton & Hove have a state-of-the-art stadium for the next hundred years. These are honest, decent and truthful people IMHO. They could quite easily have opted for a quiet life spent spending more time with their families. And who could blame them? But they’re not. They’re GAGGING for this stadium to be given the green light.
How about we all just stick together for now?
