I thought the scanner used an NFC (whatever that is) connection to your wallet rather than a QR code type scan? I had to put my NFC on to get in.

But not sure what that does tbh. I guessed a kind of Bluetooth connection but could be talking out my arse.

There's both an NFC scanner and an optical QR scanner on the gates.

Most people with phones will use NFC but if that fails, or you have a paper ticket, you use the optical scanner on the QR code.

Am I right in thinking if you screen shot your ticket and send it over. It can work?

You can if you take the photo from the phone that is going to be used to get in. Tried and tested and it works.

It sets off a flashing red light and blaring fog horn right next to Barber's desk.

Well that's ok, he won't be at his desk on a match day anyway, but in one of the lounges enjoying hospiality . . . hic.

Actually come to think of it does he actually have an office at the Amex anyway? I imagine he is based at Lancing for most of the week.

Thanks for the hilarious comment but please think before you post. Does it matter anyway?

So you have a card you that you tap on the top of the reader? If so there will be an NFC chip in it that identifies you to the system.

(*EDIT* which I see Bold Seagull has already answered)

You're on the right track. Bluetooth can be used for connections for distances of metres away but NFC (near-field communication) only works when devices are touching or a few centimetres away at most.
