Three keepers ?

Can anyone explain why International squads almost always include three goalkeepers ?

Regardless of who Sven has picked, surely we don't need three keepers, especially as we've only got room for two and a half strikers in the rest of the squad.

Baffles me every time:rolleyes:

In case 1 keeper gets injured he's still got 1 to play and 1 on the bench.

I've always wondered this too. I personally think it's just incase one of them gets injured whilst there out there playing, so they will still have one on the bench.

If the first choice is injured then the second choice will start the next game with the third choice goalie on the bench in case of injury or a sending off to second choice keeper.

Id rather have scott carson than robert green personally tho

I'd rather play with Mark Walton in goal than Scott Carson.

Fine. Agree totally.

And the last time that happened was Mexico 1970

In fact the Albion (and even Palarse) have been to the Cup Final more often than we've needed a 3rd keeper.
We've won more league titles than our 3rd international keeper has made it as far as the bench.

But you're all right, we'd be far better off taking Robert Green to Germany instead of Jermaine Defoe.
