The trouble with some Job Agencies and I say some, is that they break every single rule in the book when it comes to employment law.

This is why they employ so many people from overseas becuase they dont understand employment law and dont know anything different.

I have bad experiences working for agencies. To be quite honest with you I think some of them are low life scum.

The goverment needs to take charge of agencies and make sure they are following proper regulations, or better still take it inhouse and pay and treat people properly.

It would help if some of them actually checked your personal records before phoning you.

I had one ring me up about a month ago with a possible vacancy. She told me all about the job, what skills were required, software knowledge etc etc and it sounded great. The job description almot matched my cv perfectly. It was when she told me it was based in North London that I first smelt a rat. Turns out the vacancy was the one we were recruiting for to work with me! Strange as though it my seem (not) my cv does actually have my current position on it.

Some of them?

I've never met a recruitment consultant I wouldn't love to see eating from dustbins.

Utter SCUM the lot of them

Several post on here. I'm sure they'll be very happy to hear your views.

For the record, I don't know a single recruitment consultant who qualifies for the abuse you offer them.

What do you do for a living? I bet a few people think everyone who does that is scum, too. Usually those who know nothing about it.

I'll leave Jimmy Saville and The Grub to share a meal with you from your dustbin when they next log on. I'll make sure they are aware of your comments!

A nice opinion there Bluejuice. Do all the Welsh shag sheep? Do all those nasty black people commit all the crime? Are all gay people evil? You know absolutely nothing about me, yet my job means I deserve to eat from a bin!?!?!?

Well I tell you what Bluejuice, I think all bigots are scum, so f*** YOU.

i've aalso heard that some agencies contact your current employer- not just for reference. bu to punt their services to replace you!

Heard? From who? Is this the thanks that people like me get for trying to help you with your CV a couple of months ago? Cheers mate.

Speaking as a former recruitment consultant, I can say that recruitment agencies are all about making the most money, with the biggest margins. The only time they want to know you is when they've got a job they need to fill, hence why they'll call anyone on their books to fill a position without checking what the candidate actually registered/is qualified for.

In fairness, they're businesses and are run as such. They're not their to HELP people, that's what the job centre and other such Government agencies are for.

- Well, a recruitment agency is a business. What business is not about making money?

- Crap. Why would you waste your time calling every name on your database? Also, there are plenty of people out there who are interested in hearing about opportunities that do not exactly match their profile but might be a good positiion for them

In fairness, they're businesses and are run as such.

- Agreed

- Well, you're right to a point, but another sweeping generalisation. I spend loads of time counselling people, giving advice, coaching etc. I went into recruitment consultancy with a slightly idealistic view that i could make a difference to peoples lives and I genuinely feel that I do just that on a regular basis.

Seems fair enough then. Just seemed a massive over reaction to start with.

I've had a fair bit of experience with recruitment consultsants and the majority come across as salespeople who are selling people and only care about their commission. That being said, every job other than my paper round and part time work at Sainsburys was obtained through an agency, so I can't complain too much...

I got my new job through an agency. They phoned me up on the day I handed in my notice to confirm that that'd done so. A minute later they were on the phone to my boss offering their services. Personally I felt it made an awkward moment even more awkward.

Well, that's a sales lead. Recruitment is a sales business and your employer has a need. The recruiter is only offering a service that might be required. Is that so bad???

Okay, maybe I didn't mean LITERALLY everyone on your database, but I would call plenty of people who registered with us (Hays) for completely different jobs just so I could fill the position. Admittedly a lot of the time the candidates would take the job because they were out of work and sinmply needed the work but you could tell much of the time they were thinking "why the f*** are you ringing me with this shit?".

You and me both, but I honestly believe that we are very much in the minority compared to your regular coke-snorting, margin-obsessed, flash-suited wide boy. Would probably explain why I only lasted six months in the job. :jester:
